I made a few phone calls to attorneys today, many didn't even want to touch the case saying I need a Nevada lawyer. Some are looking into it and will give me a call tomorrow. Time is running out. I will be down to eighteen days.
I guess I can call a Nevada lawyer but I'm not a resident and I want to countersue in my own state. I want to ask that question, but lawyers being lawyers won't answer that question for me.
This is so slimy, he couldn't go through the proper channels in our own state of NJ. I will fight this, somehow, because if I don't fight this, he will get sole ownership of our business according to the summons.
Such a coward, I know the OW is pulling all the strings. You would have think the betrayal would have been enough, I'm not even sure if he is a legal resident of the Nevada. Is there any way I can check?

Look at your papers and call Vegas. I'm sure you'll get some information over the phone. Be specific and ask them about counterfiling in NJ given your state of residence. In NJ, you must have lived in the same county for some period of time before you could file.

I just finished talking to lawyer, I can't countersue in state of NJ, I will have to get a Nevada lawyer. She told me go on the internet and I should find one there.
Since I can't prove where he is living-I have no case in NJ.

Contact Clark County Family Law Self-Help Center at the following: http://www.co.clark.nv.us/district_court/self_help_glance.htmAt the very least they may be able to give you some answers. Do you and H have children? If not, I'd be inclined to answer this complaint using their online form #19. However if you do this, both you and H will need to appear in court. If you call Clark County, ask them about jursdiction. If you believe H is not residing in NV, then NV does not have jurisdiction. For this they recommend you have an attorney. They may be able to recommend one or at least point you in the right direction. Also, you might want to ask them if you can just file a continuance to postpone the hearing until you can find legal representation. At the very least, it will buy you some time. Good Luck

I can't countersue in state of NJ I'm confused. You can't file for divorce in your own state of residence? Why not?

Rather than inquiring about how to fight the divorce, try and get information on invalidating his filing on account he is not a valid resident of NV and therefore cannot claim jurisdiction.

I had a friend look over the papers. Guess what? He wants me to pay his court cost. He cheats on me, leaves me for OW, only God knows where he is living, gets a quickie D in Vegas and wants me to flip the bill.
I'm contacting a Nevada lawyer today. I was trying to find one here in NJ who has Nevada Bar license, but couldn't.
My friend also told me not to sign the final divorce papers until all the assets are split up. If I don't after the D, he could have me in litigation for years.
I finally got an address for the WH is a mailbox address that takes UPS deliveries. At least address is in Las Vegas, but anyone could set up a mailbox and live somewhere else. My gut feeling is he is still here in the area.
