And I will start.

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

Tonight I did something that, 10 years ago, I would never have imagined myself doing...And I saved money by doing it. And I didn't get dirty or break a fingernail or mess up my hair.

I, that's correct, the fair and beauteous Princess Cinderella of Caerlon, changed the air filter in my car. I went in the auto parts place, I looked up my car in the filter book, I found my filter on the shelf, I carried it to the counter, I wrote the check, then carried the filter home, and CHANGED IT!!!!!

All by myself.

Last summer I couldn't get any help to do it so my scrawny weakling self manually dug six deep holes through hard-as-brick clay and sunk posts for a fence. Which is fairly straight. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

I don't want nothin' to do with what's under the hood of my car though. I've changed plenty of tires over the years, and I'll take that over changing oil anyday.

I do know that a toot of the horn while changing the air filter will scare the [censored] out of you <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

So I'm glad you got it done before you started tooting.

Auto mechanics is cake. You would be surprised at what you can do if you try.

All you need to do is make sure you get the right part, look for something that looks like it, and change it!

If you don't know, plenty of men would be more than willing to tell you how to do it right.(Ok there was a little sarcasm there)

Anyway, Good for you. My XW probably doesn't even know that a car has an air filter.

Well, I've out-punted my coverage.

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

What does this mean? Well, you know when you see an average (or even less than average) guy with a really beautiful woman whom you would think would be totally out of his league?

That's what it means, and I certainly have done it!

This past Saturday, I had a third date (which is a big deal for me) with just such a woman. Not just physically attractive, but smart, funny, and successful to boot.

Now, I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but based on the good-night kiss (which lasted considerably longer than the one from the second date...which made the one from the first date look tame), I think I'll be seeing a lot more of this woman.

Heck, I might just have me a girlfriend soon!

TOOT! TOOT! TOOT!

I will join in with the tooters and pull on my tight sweater and toot. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" />

Today was a very good day for me! I took my D to school early in the morning and brewed myself a new, fresh pot of coffee (I LOVE that smell!) and got some work done!! Yay! I had two long errands to do, and I did them in the morning. I had lunch (I usually forget...)!!

I got my D two pairs of glasses that she REALLY wanted (not just one, but TWO!!) and it cost a little extra, but it was worth it.

I spoke with my exH firmly but respectfully about CS, and I did not back down or act all submissive! YAY!

I spoke to my S and his GF about being respectful and how it doesn't look appropriate to "disappear" into his room and "listen to music" (yeah, right--I was 17yo once too <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" /> ).

I listened to some old classic rock music!

I played with my dog and cat, even though they are both tired from going to the park yesterday.

I printed some new business cards that I like a LOT better--and I updated my flyers to match.

I took some time to write on MB! ((HUGS))

CJ - if they are disappearing into that room to listen to some music, they better be keeping the door open if they are at my house - and I'd be wearing my sneakers. YIKES!!! That's coming all too soon. YIKES, again!!!!

I can check my car's oil, coolant, and windshield stuff but can't figure out where to check the transmission fluid. Seems like they hid that. However, with my concrete driveway, I have no desire to change the oil. I can just see that mess happening.

My lovely majesty,

A princess such as yourself should not be crawling under a greasy old car anyway (at least not in a gown)!! But, HRH could probably also check her BRAKE FLUID (aka BREAK fluid if it runs out). In my car, the brake fluid is near the dipstick for the oil, and it is a twist-off top that looks a little similar to the windshield washer top. When you pull off the brake fluid lid, there is like a mini-dipstick in the lid and you can see if your fluid is low, okay, or too full. BTW, brake fluid looks a little like antifreeze or lime koolaide that has coagulated. heehee!

Ah--female car talk with a princess! How funny!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" />

I applaud all y'all women who have come out of Divorce 'Hell' and are looking none the worse for wear. Especially our Princess.
For each of you, collectively: "You go, girl"

I bought myself a cordless/rechargeable Makita drill....and know how to use it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

I have also found out that all the *man* jobs are fun and us *womenfolk* have gotten the poop end of the stick for years!

I bought the cordless Black and Decker drill. Makita is definitely better. But the price was right. And, did you know, Skil and Bl&D are made by the same company? Skil is the better of the two lines.

Some of the man jobs are way better than most of the woman jobs. Like washing dishes. Man, you talk about a boring, repetitive task. Up to 3 meals a day, 7 days a week. Who wants to do any job 21 times a week?

If your car is a stick shift, you don't have any transmission fluid to check. Otherwise, they tend to hide the transmission dip stick near the back of the engine in most cases. The car also needs to be running when you check this.

As for doing "man Jobs" (that sounds dirty <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" /> )

STBXW tried changing the toilet seat one time. I ended up having to replace the toilet when I got home from work.

I don't recomend to anyone ever trying to do anything to a toilet with a hammer <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

doofus idgit was semi-mechanically inclined. So, he would never work on a toilet that would run just a little and was only noticeable when you were in the bathroom and the house was quiet - then it ran only a little at weird intervals.

I got tired of this a few years after he left.

I drained the thing, disassembled it, took it up from the floor, replaced the wax ring, reseated the bowl, replaced the hose from the floor to the tank, put the tank back on, and got it working again. Doesn't leak. (But no one told me at the time that I should replace the plumbing in the tank at the same time.

Now, I have an old Case toilet that needs work in the other bathroom. The seat broke and a new seat that fits that toilet is $100 because they don't make them anymore so they are hard to come by. For that price, you could go a long way toward replacing the whole toilet. But I need one less than 24 inche tall at the top of the tank. So, we're looking at nearly $400 for everything. And then it might not flush as well as what I have. But the guts to replumb the tank are over $100.

Sheesh

Hey Jane-Elise!!!

For real, you have to replace... like the air filter?

Tell ya what, the Trans is treated like a King here. My my last car I didn't change the oil at all and had it for 8 years.

This guy is different [unless there is a problem, then it turns into a girl] BABY is treated better than my kids.

Oh, BTW... WAY TO GO GIRL!!!

Cinderella....I don't know about your area, but around here (Canada) we have stores called Liquidation World -- they have anything from beds, to toilets (though not all the time -- depends on what is being liquidated). You should be able to find a toilet for a decent price. Another source is the Bargain Finder. We have a newspaper of used goods that is advertised for free. So many people re-vamp their bathrooms (that's if you're not to icky with a used toilet -- though you may luck out and find a new one!)

As for my Makita -- garage sale -- hee hee. I'm looking for a chop saw now!

$100 for a new standard toilet at Home Depot sounds about right. For something "Non-Standard" sounds like fixxing the old one may be better.

Just PLEASE don't use a hammer <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" />

I figure I will just get a new toilet seat at $90 or so and live with the old toilet. I doubt any of the current 'low flow' toilets in my price range would work as well as what I have. And I won't use a hammer to replace it - even though I have several hammers from which to choose.

But, could someone please go use a hammer on doofus. He needs it. Just because he's such a doofus. Couldn't hurt. 'Cause he's a doofus. Not got much in that noggin anyway. Nah, we better not do that, I need the CS money.
