My fridge gave up the ghost yesterday. Unfortunately, I was giving a speech in class and it counted as a large part of my grade, so I had other things to worry about come 4:00.

I sent the semi-thawed filet home with my mother. I was saving it for a special occassion.

Anyway, this morning, the girls tell their dad about the fridge, gleefully announcing we were getting doughnuts and milk from the convenience store.

So, B. offers to come help me move the old fridge out and the new-used one up from the basement where it was being stored. I agree.

Am I a cake eater? Was I horribly wrong? I wouldn't have asked him for all the money in the world. He volunteered.

No you are not being a cake eater!! He is respobsible for the well being of his children and they along with you definately need a fridge. How in the world does that make you a cake eater? No Definately not!

He offered and you ALLOWED, that is not the same thing. Plus that what people do for those they supposedly love. I would be on the look out though for some bad behavior if he asks you for something and you don reciprocate. remember that you are not obligated to and don't because then you'll begin a never ending cycle of (well I'll do this because he did this for me).

take care and don't worry,

JT

I don't think so. He knows it is best for the kids.
Remember that there are many divorced parents who can communicate and cooperate and do help in areas such as this. We are typically not in this group, but that doesn't mean it isn't a start

OMG How could you. I can't believe you expect him to go out of his way just to help with such a simple task. And using your kids to guilt him into doing it.

I am kidding

There is nothing wrong with you accepting his offer as long as he doesn't think you owe him for it. Heck, maybe he can get some more stuff out of the basement while he's at it.

I always offer my help to STBX with no expectations. many times she turns me down, others, she knows she realy does need my help so accepts.

You know, GG - I half expected to read some torn bit about finding someone else...

OR

Something utterly ridiculous like whether eating a blueberry muffin counted as eating cake! (so much carb counting these days, you can never tell )

My verdict is also a resounding NO! I typically see "cake eating" as doing something against someone's will.....but doing it anyway. Wanting something both ways. If he offered (or even if he didn't, but he agreed) there is no cake eating to be had.

Now if you had premeditatedly (is that a word?) manipulated him into something he didn't want to do, but then threatened him if he didn't....then maybe . But even then, it's his responsibility to say "no."

Hey - enjoy the cake free of guilt.....it was a gift

Nope. It is ok to accept genuine offers of help. It is ok to offer genuine offers of help.
