A little lead in...
I spent $ I shouldn't have spent and bought myself a "divorce" gift late last week--a DVD recorder--so that I can record off all my video tapes of our family before the tapes fall apart. The oldest ones are almost 15 years old and their quality is really poor already.
The accomplishment:
I have successfully recorded off all our Christmases thru 2001 and two miscellaneous odds/ends tapes of our family. And I did it all WITHOUT CRYING!
In fact, I actually found myself smiling quite frequently, even at some of the things my X was doing in the videos.
Granted, if I tried this during a low moment or during PMS, I'd fall apart. But I thought it was a good start towards recovery.
I'm kinda' proud of myself.

Hi Lords
Good for you! I've been reading some of your posts and want you to know I am thinking of you. I am going through a difficult divorce right now. There is no substance abuse, or affairs. Just lots of misunderstanding and miscommunication. However, my wife has been making things very hard on all of us. We have 3 young kids, 7, 5 and 6 months and this is just devastating. I will keep you in my thoughts.

That is awesome. But I do see another accomplishment in there and challenge you to keep it up. You did something for you by buying that recorder. Always be nice to yourself.
This is something that I've started recently. Every payday, I take myself out to eat and buy myself something. It can be as simple as a new DVD or CD, or a designer outfit from the Wal-Mart. But when I fail to take myself out and be nice to me, I feel it. Love yourself, you're worth it.

Good for you! I went away this weekend with 5 of my friends. We went to ST. Augustine and had a blast. I spoiled myself and bought some things I wanted. I think it's important to do special things for ourselves in times like these! Enjoy your DVD recorder!!!!

Feels good, doesn't it? I'm doing simple things like buying household things I need for my new house, and it is empowering to take care of yourself, make your own decisions and move forward.
Cheers to you! Keep on keepin' on...

Way to go LL! I was impressed that you were able to transfer the videos in the first place! I believe I was born technologically impaired. I would say that's why God gave me a husband...but since he's no longer around...that's why God gave me two sons!

Okay, I USED to be fairly technologically inclined. Not so much anymore. It took a while (but only one ruined "test" DVD) for me to figure out how to do the transferring.
Another accomplishment last night--far less expensive but almost equally as satisfying...
I changed the toilet tank rubber flapper-thingy last night in my master bathroom!! By myself!! And the toilet flushes correctly!! And water doesn't seep down from the tank into the bowl anymore!!! -----------------------------------------------
Okay, so NOW how do I accomplish getting my worries under control about my daughter's rapidly approaching flight to Paris with her dad and OW?? They sent me an itinerary for her flight tonight. She's going to be 4,000+ miles away from her mommy!
She leaves a week from tomorrow and is gone for just over a week.
She's never gone that far away from me before...and it's to a foreign country.
