According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring.

Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa’s reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl.

We should’ve known... ONLY women would be able to drag a fat-@$$ man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

You know, LH, that explains a lot of the stories I get to read this time of year. Jan Brett's story has quite a few reindeer acting very b*tchy. One has to be brushed a certain way before she'll fly.

Another has them nagging santa, telling him to hurry up or he'll be late.

It also explains why when I leave out grain and carrots, they're untouched Christmas morning. I should obviously be leaving out chocolate covered carrots and granola bars!

LH,
That was funny and oh so true. I must add I am glad to see someone refer to the day as Christmas. Not x-mas,etc.
Go to any mall or store and there is no reference to Christmas at all. It's Happy Holidays or Seasons Greetings blah, blah, blah.

LH,

Loved it! (Especially, being a woman!) Hope you don't mind--I copied it and emailed to some coworkers, and some friends...and some more friends...and some family. I'm sure the real truth about Santa's reindeer is circulating nicely around central Iowa right now!

And it is the PREGNANT female reindeer who are most likely to keep their antlers. That wasn't made very clear in the initial post, LH. The female reindeer are more likely to keep their antlers - especially the pregnant ones.

Only pregnant women would be able to work those sorts of miracles. After all, what is dragging a fat man with a bunch of toys all over the world in a single night when compared to growing a new baby inside your own body?
