I am married to a wonderful man that has one BIG problem, all his life when things get rough he runs thinking the problem will go away. Now that we are married he feels like his space has been invaded (which it has, he got me, my daughter-who he is great with, 2 dogs and a cat). His way of coping with this is to emotionally shut down and lately EVERYTHING gets to him. I will not give up on him, but he says that it is going to take him a LONG time to adapt to the situation, any suggestions on how to cope with this would be appreciated.

Mislyn,

What are you doing about YOU though?

Make sure you care about yourself and help him where you can.

Ben.

He's a conflict avoider, probably based on problems from his family of origin (alcohol, etc).
Go to a counselor immediately if you want to salvage your relationship. I endured too long.
