Let me just start out by saying that I'm not giving my wife a D until she is in a state of mind to make a rational decision.
I'm in the state of CA and was wondering what paperwork, if any, indicates that I'm agreeing to a D. My wife had some paperwork made up. It's a Schedule of Assets and Debts, form FL-142 and income and Expense Declaration, form FL-150.
It looks a bit intimidating and seems to indicate that I do want a divorce even though there is nothing on here to suggest that. My wife also said that it is not a declaration nor a request for a divorce.
Can someone tell me what, exactly, this form is for? Can this form be avoided? i.e. a written contract or agreement between both parties as to who gets what and what goes where?
Thanks!!!

Let me preface this by saying I'm NOT in California. But I had a few minutes online waiting for a repairman, and did a search for you. Basically there is an alert that goes with the form saying "most people need a lawyer's help to fill out and file Schedule of Assets & Debits. It can be very complicated to determine what is separate and what is community property." Here is a link you might want to check out: California Self-Help Website And another site for California Self-Help Laws: Sacramento Self-Help websiteIn reading these, it really does appear that the purpose of both of these forms is to make determinations relating to divorce. Proceed with caution, especially if this is not what you want, or too soon to go that route.
