After delay after setback after runaround, and a nightmare of paperwork and headaches, deeds and surveys, permits and fees, mistakes and misinformation...
I CLOSE ON MY NEW CONSTRUCTION MORTGAGE FRIDAY!!
'Member 'bout a year ago I was asking "modular vs. manufactured"? We even put a deposit on a model with a floor plan we liked. I thought our greatest hurdle would be financing; just a few years ago I couldn't get approved for a $5K car loan.
Well, through the struggles with the township, and the county, and the family issues going on, we never got closer to the DEED I needed to begin the financing process. (When my dad died in '92 we decided to leave the 200 acre farm in all of our names and not make any rash decisions about splitting it up. Over the years, regulations changed, making it impossible to split the way we'd planned!) We decided to go stick-built as the time we'd save by buying a modular was no longer an issue, and we found we could build a larger house to our specs for the same money!
After a real rollercoaster ride with the county offices (one person would say we could split it our way, and send us to another office for paperwork, and we'd come back and be told NO we couldn't split it that way, etc.) we have all the permits lined up and incredibly the lender is coming through just in time (after Feb. 28 we'd have to go through a requote on construction and re-do all the permits due to energy code changes).
So instead of having a 'nice' 1600 sq.ft. modular and moving into it last summer, had things gone the way WE had planned, someone else had a different plan for us, and we'll be moving into an 1800 sq.ft. HOUSE this summer. As upset as we were about the delays a year ago, it all makes sense now.
The appraisal came in high so I don't have to bring ANY cash to close, and the loan is completely in my name. Me, who couldn't get a $5K car loan a few short years ago. Me, who never lived in a home that didn't have axles from graduation til separation. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" /> ME is HAPPY!
