I don't mean to get into anyone's business but I am interested in how much other couples are paying in child support. My husband pays $450/m but he doesn't have anything legally established and we can't afford an attorney right now. (My husband makes about $32,000/yr and the OW probably makes about $20,000/yr) I worry that we will be faced with a large back child support order because he has not been paying enough. Does anyone know what the rules are?
Thanks
Troll

troll,
you're not likely to get many responses, I think, money being a taboo and all.
My H pays the same as your H plus 80/mo in healthy insurance. It's based on his military "base pay", which means (thank you God!!) they did not include the tax-exempt pay which we mostly get to afford the extra expense of being overseas. His base pay is about what your H makes, I think.
I would check out the guidelines for the XOW's state to be sure if your H is basically in-line.

The child support in our case is $315 per month. But, on the other hand, my H's brother has a child and only pays $75 per month. His brother makes more than my H and the mother in his case makes less than the OW in our case. I think a lot of it comes down to representation in court. The OW in our case has a good lawyer, we have yet to afford one. The mother in his brothers case didn't have a great lawyer and my H's brother did...

Troll,
I was very concerned about how this child support thing will affect me as you are. I was told by a lawyer that in this state you can not be sued for child support before the date the mother of the child actually files for it. So if she chose to wait for five years, then legally she can not sue for back support. He would only be obligated from the date of the initial filing.
Of course I asked the lawyer, what about all the men who are sued for back support. According to this lawyer, the mothers have filed but for one reason or another the men have neglected payments.
In our case I consulted a lawyer because the OW claimed she didn't need my H's money. That changed when the OC arrived.
My H doesn't pay as much as yours and he was working 2 jobs at the time OW filed. She didn't have a lawyer. H didn't either. It was settled during abitration so it did not go to court
