My husband had a 2x sexual encounter with a girl 20 years his junior. We are in recovery right now (I'm pretty sure). How and when can you get a DNA test to be certain of the paternity of the child ? The girl says she is about 3-4 months pregnant.

My lawyer told me that child had to be 3-4 months old. I had also read that there is pre-birth testing. I would find out what your state law accepts. But check out this web site:
http://www.dnacenter.com
Good luck with the recovery. That is tough enough without looking at this paternity issue. Take care of yourself.
Carolyn

quakermom,
We had the DNA test performed when the child was less than a month old. We were also told the test can be done while the child is still in the hospital after birth. It also depends on how cooperative the OW is. In most cases samples are taken from the alleged father, child and mother. Also the link contained in the post above is a great one. That is the company we used, and the results are admissable into court. The cost for us was $493.00, which is pretty good in comparison to other companies we checked into.
I wish you and your H the best in recovery.
[This message has been edited by tryingtomoveforward (edited June 25, 2000).]

In our case I think blood was taken for DNA around 2 weeks after birth, though I understand the cord blood can be used--less painful for the baby--if arranged ahead of the birth. It cost us 200 per person: $600. I called a 1-800# from our telephone book; some company in Ohio, but used local labs.
So sorry you have to go through this. One of life's biggest nightmares.
