Gregg: The group Beautiful Day 'sounds' like Jefferson Airplane (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery) but I do know the two songs White Bird and White Rabbit. While listening to White Rabbit, we saw pink pigs, red foxes, brown cows and paisley butterflys. But that was a lifetime ago!
Catnip =^^=
[This message has been edited by catnip (edited December 25, 2000).]

Gemini:
The sixties were a pretty silly decade. My kids have a lot of fun with me because of it. You should hear them howl when they see pictures of me back then...and my ex-husband.
However, what could be sillier than the disco era with the platform shoes and the whippy-dip hairstyles...and leisure suits!
The best part about the sixties was the revolutionary music scene. The thing that bothers me is when these classic songs are mutated into commercials, i.e. the Turtles singing "So Happy Together" and changing the lyrics to fit a Golden Grahams cereal commercial. Sacrilige! Sell out!
While that era of music was an explosion of talent, innovation and revolution, most of it is considered 'classic' today. In many ways, we are all 'so sixties' because we all understand it, enjoy it and know it, no matter what our age. It transcends generations.
Over the years my tastes have come full circle. In addition to loving the blues and jazz, there is some outstanding country songs I love and classical is always wonderful; but I find I once again love the music that my mom grew up with. Everything from Big Band to Hit Parade hits of the fifties...Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Peggy Lee...it is all so fabulous.
There's a place here in my city where college kids hang out to listen to Mel Torme, Tony Bennett and Sinatra songs. Harry Connick Jr, I think, is instrumental in bringing back all these old time relics and popularizing them once again and introducing them to the younger crowd. It's romantic stuff.
Catnip =^^=

Catnip,
You're right about the commercials changing songs to "sell" their product.
I too have come to love the "big band" music of the 40's and 50's. Deano and FRANKIE blue eyes and Mr. Bennet are among my and my H FAVORITES.
One thing that bothers me...We love Jerry Vale too...well there's a song called "pretend you don't see her" that we would listen to on the way to dinner with ow and her h.I did ask him is that why he played that song over and over sometimes,he said "no" I just LIKE that song". Well I did too cuz it was in a movie we bought "Goodfellas". However I think and will forever think he played it for "moral" support! Pisses me off!
The other funny thing is ow NEVER appreciated that music as when we "double dated" and my H would put a cd in like that she would complain! ha ha ...Her FAVORITE song to request when we were all out was "Brick House"(Commodores?) And she sure is a BRICK HOUSE!!!!!!! Fat Whor*!!!!!
She would shake her fat a** all over the place.......
Debi
------------------
Imagine....
Hey, like, Catnip,
I must say, I don't remember much of the 60's( or 70's, or 80's, and only a couple weeks of the 90's.) Really, to me the sixties was music, music, music!!
To me all the flower power and social revolution was just youthful idealism. I thought that back then.
But the music has endured.

And your right, "It's a Beautiful Day" did sound like early Jeff Airplane, and there was a white rabbit, white bird, white cloud (no, wait, that's toilet paper), and Whitewater***** and**** oh crap!!
God bless you man,
------------------

Gregg
