There were headlines in paper today and on news all day long about a poor 19 year old girl who gave birth to a child, then slit her throat and tried to kill her. The news over and over again refered to her as a "mother".
I have been so ill over this. I have cried for the child. I have cried for the poor girl who was pregnant and thought this was her only option. But what has really raged with me is that the term "mother" can cover such a broad spectrum. I wish there was another word in this case. I just somehow do not feel that we are all in the same category. I take pride in being a mother, but how can this term fit both me and this poor girl?
Sorry to distract from the intent on this board. Carolyn

Dear takingcare,
Since going through this OW/OC experience, I have also become very sensitive to terms like mother and father.
Like you, I feel that the ability to have a biological child has nothing whatsoever to do with being a mother. I agree with FoolishKat. Animals produce children -- but it is a very special thing to be a mother or a mommy.
We have all learned the hard way that our H's can spread sperm anywhere, but that has not and never will make them real fathers to those children.
Sometimes I wonder what is happening in this country. It seems that alley cats have better morals than many people and I fear for my children growing up in a society where everyone is looking for the quick fix (like affairs) or the quick buck (like CS).
We have learned a hard lesson, but I believe that we and our children will be better people in the long run for having lived through this.
love,
heavenly
[This message has been edited by heavenlybody26 (edited April 20, 2001).]
