DO ANYONE KNOWS IF THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE CAN BE SIGNED BY FATHER OUTSIDE OF THE HOSPITAL WITHOUT A NOTARY?<BR>H TOLD ME THE OW BROUGHT FORMS HOME AND HE SIGNED THEM. I LIVE IN DC.<BR>BECAUSE IF NOT THEN HE HAD TO HAVE DONE IT AT THE HOSPITAL.

In Tennessee you can change name after the fact. All father has to do is submit paperwork. I am not sure that a notary is involved. But it does not have to be done in hospital. <P>Hope this helps. Carolyn

I think SweetC is asking about the father signing the actual birth certificate---not an acknowledgement of paternity.<P>In our state and when our children were born, I gave the information to the lady from the medical records office at the hospital and signed the birth certificates. H wasn't even there, but of course, we WERE married, so he was automatically the legal father---would be, even if he wasn't the biological father. Now, if we HADN'T been married, the space for the father's name would have been left blank, but I think that if the father is present, he can agree to have his name put on the birth certificate.<P>I rather think that the actual birth certificate would not leave the hospital, as most states have strict reporting protocol for such matters. Check the laws of your state and see.
