Lately there has been a lot of talk about how people are going to react if/when the oc shows up on their doorstep. You all know my story and where we are at. But even if ow had stuck to her original agreement and we were to remain out of oc's life forever, I would still have to tell my four sons about their half-sister someday. Why? My second son is two days older than oc. And they are all within four years of her age. And my parents and ow's parents live just a few miles from each other.
Suppose one day when my son and oc are both 16 or 17, both visiting their grandparents, they run into each other. What if they didn't know about each other and they had sex? Of course I am hoping that my sons are bright enough and have better morals than to sleep with anybody off the street, but I know how teenage boys can be when the hormones are raging, and oc's mother's family has a reputation of whoring all around town with anybody who happens along. I can't even imagine what the fall-out from something like that would be.
Has this occurred to anybody else that has children of the opposite sex of oc?
I guess the odds of this happening may seem remote, especially when oc lives far away from the primal family, but when I was vacationing in New Orleans a few years ago, I ran into 3 different people I knew from PA, so it is indeed a "small world".
Also, I have a bit of experience in something like this happening - though not on that kind of horrifying level. When I was a teenager, I had a bit of an (innocent) romance with a young man who turned out to be a third cousin due to some fooling around between family members a few generations back. Neither of us knew it. And although third cousins are far enough removed to be OK, it does lead me to wonder what would happen if oc and sons didn't know of each other's existance.
Anyway, just thought I'd mention this to see if I am the only one who has worried about the possibility of such a thing happening.
-cd

CD, I also have 3 sons and the oc is a girl. Our baby is 17 months old and the oc is 19 months old.I thought that I was the only woman who was pregnant at the same time as ow. Iam wondering if our "cycles" started to match. And maybe our H's sperm count was up then. How sick and coincidental. I also have a half sister that my father had with my mother's best friend. Iam 32 now and she is about 27. I found out about her when I was 17. She didn't absolutely find out until a few years ago. I have seen her, but not since she found out. SHe looks nothing like her other 2 siblings and very much like our family. My mother remained friend swith her almost throughout the ordeal. She new that she was pregnant with my fathr's child as they lived across the street from each other. My father had no involvment in her life. The ow was married and her h raised her as his own. I am sure he knows by now.THe ow has been remarried for years. We still have limited contact with her. She and her h are customers at our business. I almost called her when I found out about the ow's pregnancy so I could understand ,why? My mother and father are still together after 44 years. The ow also admitted that she got pregnant so my father would leave my mother. Never happened. THeir affair lasted off and on for 14 years .It has been over for quite some time.

Yes, the oc(boy) is 2 mos younger than my d.
I do not want them in the same school.
In our case, dna was never established but the op
was adamant it was my h's child. They live too close,
but we pray daily that they move since they are renting
and it looks like the place is for sale.
There will be a day that we have to sit our children
down and explain the possibility. How very sad because
life is so confusing for children already.
We do not want them to find out by accident or through
rumors. Since our children are young, we can put that
on the back burner for now. Just thinking about it makes
me angry. Maybe they(op & family) will catch the first shuttle to mars...in any case, we will explain all to the oc if he ever comes looking for us. I do not want to hide my head in the sand with embarassment for something I did not do. All we can do is do the best for OUR children.
Hi to everyone! Take care, fluke

CD,
I had a friend in college who was the result of an affair, but she did not know the identity of the father. Her mother died of cancer when she was 5, and her (half)brother destoyed the only existing picture of her biodad. That's all she knew was that he lived in the area, was married, had 3 kids (2 boys, 1 girl?). She was terrified of dating a half-brother unknowingly. She had SOO many unanswered questions. She said she could understand the wife not wanting her around but she wished she could have met her biodad JUST ONE TIME to ask him some of these burning sorts of questions that bothered her. Like I said in another post, some kids want to know things, some don't.
As for us, our daughter was born same month as OC and our son and XOW'S first kid (not OC)used to pretend they were "married"... yes that sort of sick thing with the OC has occurred to me. We will tell my kids by their teen years about the OC, even though we don't live close. I don't look forward to it, but I know my kids can handle it.
