Tigger just came home from her 6 week checkup and found out that Abbi has O+ blood. Now I am A+, Tigger is O+ and OM is O-. The question for all the medically inclined is: is it possible that Abbi is mine biologically speaking? More than anything we need to know if we need to use protection. I Love Abbi with all my heart, regardless of biology. We are not in the financial position to get a DNA test right now, so all that would say to do that we know that is the only sure way to know. Thank you all in advance for your input.
SM59
------------------
For God so loved the world that he gave...

Sailorman:
The quick answer is that it is possible that you are the father. It's also possible that you are not.
Sorry for the "no answer". DNA testing would be the way to go.

I have no idea. However, my obgyn in NC told me about a case he saw in which a man underwent 4 (yes 4) vascectomy procedures and still produced 6 children. All were confirmed his via DNA testing. Doc said nobody could figure out where the sperm was coming from, but it was coming from somewhere. I don't suppose you can tell who Abbi looks like yet? If it were me, I would say you should use protection just in case.
-cd

Sailorman, I don't usually post on this board as I was fortunate that my H's affair did not produce a child. However, these wonderful people were here to give me advise not long ago when a good friend found out that her H got his girlfriend pregnant.
Anyway, to help answer your question. I am O- and my H is O+ and we have 4 children. 3 of them are O+ and one is O-. It is my understanding that the odds are 1 in 4 children will be negative if one of their parents are (kinda like the brown-eyed vs. blue-eyed odds). It used to be very dangerous for a woman with negative blood factor to give birth to a positive blood baby. Because the fetus was treated like a foreign object in the womans body, antibodies would try to attack the fetus. Thankfully a shot of Rhogam, which I had to have after each birth, protects any future pregnancies.
It's confusing but the bottom line is that the odds are in your favor, but it's still a 25% chance that Abbi could be OM's. I'll keep my fingers crossed that she's biologically yours, but either way I know that you love her just the same! Good luck....
[This message has been edited by Angelface (edited May 11, 2001).]

Thank you!!! ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)
AF,
Of the three so far I like your answer the best. You are right that it really doesn't matter but I would still like to know. Abbi looks like her mom and sister so who knows as far as looks are concerned.
Thank you for all of your replies.
SM59
------------------
For God so loved the world that he gave...

Hey Sailor,
If OM is not involved, do you really want to know? Would it make a diference?
Now, as far as covering your *ss legally, bystander would be the man to ask.

The gold standard is a DNA test. It aint cheap, but if you really want to know..............
God bless you,
------------------
Gregg

Gregg,
Just to clarify, I do not need protection of my @ss. I am just curious. The protection I am referring to is so that tigger doesn't get preggo again right now. That is why I am curious about Abbi's biology. There is no doubt in my military mind that she is my little girl regardless of biology.
Thanks for your reply!!!
P.S It changed all of my posts that I did today to member. That is cool.
Happy Aloha Friday everyone.
SM59
------------------
For God so loved the world that he gave...

You have group A blood, which means you carry genes for both group A and O. A is the dominant blood type, but you could have passed on an O gene that could make Abby yours. However, OM and Tigger both have O blood. If mixing O+ and O-, the baby could have come out with an Rh factor of + or -. Confused? In order for Abby to be positively identified as OM child, both OM and Tigger would have had to have - blood types, which would produce a - blood type in Abby. In other words, Abby could be yours or his. The DNA test is really the way to definitely determine biology. Some labs will allow you to pay in installments, but will not conduct the testing until paid in full. The BIG question is: how important is it to you to know? Isn't Abby yours, regardless of biology? Enjoy her, Sailorman. She's a wonderful gift. I'm real big on old sayings and clichés…don't look a gift-horse in the mouth.

I just read your last post...my apologies. If you worried about fertility. Go to your Doc and get a sperm-count.

Hey Sailor,
I didn't mean THAT kind of protection, dude!!
I meant protection from OM should he decide to stake a legal claim somewhere down the road!! If Abbi is yours, he has nothing!!
If you think there is a chance he may try to come back into the picture, maybe the testing would be worth it.

God bless you,
------------------
Gregg

OB1, Thank you for your insight. To be honest it really doesn't matter for biology it matters for fertility. Abbi is and always will be mine and tigger's. Although W and I have discussed a sequel. She was shocked to say the least. I am going to set up a test to see if my vasectomy was not completely effective.
Gregg,
You just crack me up!!! ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)
SM59
------------------
For God so loved the world that he gave...
