Hi all,
My son called today to let me know there is a chance he will be a father. He had unprotected sex on June 8 with a girl. She apparantly had unprotected sex on May 22 and May 24 with another young man. Her period was due on June 15. She is definitly pregnant and had a blood test (HCG) i think last week. She told my son that the Dr told her that she almost certainly became pregnant on the 8th rather then the other dates because of her (HCG) count. Is it possible to pin point it to that accuracy? Does anyone here know how safe prenatal dna testing is? She told my son it could be done in August at 9 weeks .But I have been reading and am worried it is unsafe for the fetus and possibly not recommended unless amnio is already being done for other purposes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Joy

Well Beta quants are helpful BUT they have a huge I mean HUGE range EX 4-5 weeks Pregnant your Beta can be anywhere from 100-10,000 5-6 weeks can be 500 to 50,000....see were I am going with this? That doc is a quack if he is trying to determine paternity with Betas(he should know better). It depends on the girls regular cycle days, BUT on a regular (normal) 28 day cycle, I would have to disagree with her doctor...BIGTIME. that means from ovulation (june 8) to when her period was due was 7 days. that is NOT a long enough Luteul Phase, she will miscarry. A luteul phase MUST be at least 12 days in length (luteul phase = ovulation to the begining of next cycle or the start of your period) women with luteul phase defect (short phases) cant get pregnant 7 days is WAY TOO SHORT..NEVER WOULD HAVE HAPPENED...the baby is not your sons. it makes more sense that it was May 24. actually the day of conception should have occured somewhere around the 31st of may or the first of June. Unless she is way off on her cycle days. Sounds to me like she likes your son better then the "others" she has been with. If she was due to start her period June 15 (if her days are correct) your son is not the Daddy.
Now as far as amino to test paternity. that is usually done later in pregnancy not to risk Miscarriage, Now there is still a risk of Miscarriage anyway. BUT the cost for this is astronomical (2,000-3,000) this is NOT covered by insurance companies it can even be higher, if there are complications. If you wait till the baby is born the cost is about 600.00 for blood testing (can even be lower depending where you live). I personally think this girl is taking sonny for a ride. if her dates are accurate, there is NO WAY he is the father..good luck..MC
