I am wondering if anyone knows about DNA testing and if a false positive can be a result when only one of two brother's has been tested. Rumor has it that both my brother-in-law AND my husband (one other unnamed guy too) had sex with the ow around the same time. If the brother doesn't get tested and only my husband, then I'm uncertain of how that can affect the results. Brother-in-law doesn't want to take the test.
I posted this somewhere else, but just figured out how to post a new topic. Sorry
tinlizzy

Unless your h and his brother are identical twins there should be no problem. Someone could ask bro-in-law if he did sleep with with woman and if he did try to get him to be tested too.
You can find some links for dna testing here http://google.yahoo.com/bin/query?p=patenity+test&hc=0&hs=0null
[ October 22, 2001: Message edited by: Bozos_ Deb ]

Thanks Deb. My brother-in-law already has 4 children that he pays for and 8 that he does not, mostly because the other women don't want him in their lives, I think! So, he is soooo *not* willing to be tested. The ow is denying that she slept with anyone else, but her friends say otherwise.
This totally sucks!!!

Tinlizzy,
That is my understandign of it also. Only identical twins have to same dna since they came from the same cell. Brothers would have a similar, but still different set of genes. It is a probablility that they could both show up as 90 something percent, but that is bc the test doesnt really say "yes! this is the father!", it just basically says that he can not be ruled out. I do not know the exact stats but its like only 1 in 500000 would also score so high a percentile. That could be way off, but I know its a high nuber so the likelyhood of it being the father when it is in the 90s is very high.
Bystander is one of our best in the legalities so if he doesnt post and you cant find the info elsewhere I would then direct the question to him. Good luck..
Love and Prayers
broken_wings

See, now I talked to someone at www.ptclabs.com and they said that they can do extra testing, but it's always possible that there can be a false positive without the brother's DNA. They guarantee a 99.9% result. Of course, they are almost twice as high as others on the net, but that's not my biggest issue.
I should ask ow if the baby was born on time or late or early. According to the date she gave me, the baby was actually born 3weeks late at 8lbs 6oz. In my dh's family, that's a normal size baby and she's not a petite little thing either. I didn't think that Dr.s let a woman go that far over.
I will try to contact Bystander (how would I do that?) if he doesn't pop in here. Thanks.

Just copy what you posted to a new post. Sorry if I offend you, but when I first got on here I was clueless...so highlight your post and then push ctrl and c. that will copy it. Go and make a new topic and then paste it on by pushing ctrl and v. Then for the subject just attention it to Bystander. He will come along. I think you can pretty much take his work for law.

Yes, Deb, you would think that he'd learn, huh? It would be a wonder if he didn't have aids or something! Hmmm....duh, I should have dh and myself get tested!
I guess dh mentioned something to his brother about thinking that it wasn't his and brother immediately said, "*I* didn't sleep with her!!!" A couple of ow's friends said that they did, but I haven't asked her. I *did* ask her what she told people when they asked who the father is. She said, "well, it depends who asks!"
