I have been reading many posts, and a lot of you seem to know a lot how family law works in many states. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about Texas law. I don't know anyone here in a situation even similar to mine, and don't have the funds to call around to lawyers with exhorbitant fees. Any information would be helpful. My husband is particularly interested in mediation and whether he can sign over paternity. The oc is too far from us for him to have a relationship and he would prefer to be out of her life than to float in every now and then. Is there anything we can do?
Jen

Jen,
What state does OC live in? If OC is resident of another state, that state would have jurisdiction. That would be a place to start.
OB1

Jen,
I work in the legal field, and yes, the county and state where the resides will have to be where you start. A lot of the information you are looking for can probably be found on the web free of charge. Or you can call the county's child support office and request that they send out a copy of their guidelines/laws/procedures to you.
If I find any information out about Texas's laws I will post them for you to take a look at.

Jen,
I have to correct an error in the first line of my posting - the county and state where the CHILD resides. Sorry about that.
