Hey ya'll, I haven't posted in a while, but I had a birthday in Feb, I am closing in fast on 50 years young, (next year) and have been looking back over my 29 year marriage and the "hiccup" of 10 years ago. My H's affair with a younger woman and the child of that physical relationship.
I have survived and grown stronger for it. with all of his foibles my husband has been assiduously making up for his faux pax with the OW.
I will be embarking on a new career in the next 2 years and 3 of my five children are almost on their own. I am not sure how "grown-up" they are, but they are all in their 20's.
If any advice I would give, it would be look at the commitment you have in your marriage (we had 18.5 years together when my H got stupid). We had 4 children to raise at the time. I knew he was a loving father, just had lost his path. So I stuck it out. Now anytime it comes up, he holds me with tears in his eyes (still ) and apoligises for his indiscretion.
As for the OW, she is a single parent raising a little girl who has never met her father, and will probably never meet him until she pushes for it. HE made the choice, I did not. He said he did not think she would benefit from a part time father and our children did not have to deal with learning their father had feet of clay while young. He felt as young adults they might cope better. Like with many others, once she became pregnant, the affair lost its glamor. He was in it for fun, to escape a career that was deadending, turning 40, and hated it.
I did find it interesting that they were able to sleep together on an irregular basis (she lived in NC and we lived in KY, he saw her on wkends for @6mos straight). In all that time she never got pregnant, yet when he told her in Feb I was pregnant, he saw her 3 more times, she came up pregnant. Her bc failed in April.
So, we are together and times are good. We look forward to growing old together, "the best is yet to come".
Strength of will, determination and most of all FAITH got us through this. Occasionally, I do have doubts, who wouldn't, but I believe we made the right decisions after the affair was revealed.
Hope this brings a ray of hope to some.
I am
Texasgirl.

It did for me, TG. I am so glad to see you here tonight. Your life sounds so normal now...I'm so glad. Isn't it funny how we all took normal for granted at one time and now this is what we seek?
Thanks so much for posting this uplifting message. Newcomers will find comfort in knowing there are happy endings.
Love
Catnip =^^=
