hi,
I didnt want to ask on unsures thread, but you mentioned that your son had surgery,

I was curious did your son by chance only walk on his tip toes!?

I know that sounds silly, but my daughter will only walk on her tiptoes and I cant figure out why!?
any thoughts would be appreciated.

He DID walk on his tiptoes, but unfortunately we knew the reason why is due to cerebral palsy! I hope and pray that your daughter is just doing this because she wants to and not because she can't help it???? What are they saying/recommending?

Anyway, the "heel chord lengthening" surgery did help him tremendously! The doctor was very conservative and did not cut behind his hamstrings, only his calves. He is walking flat footed now, and is much more stable and well-balanced than he has ever been. Recovery time was about 2-3 months. Usually we take his wheelchair for long walking trips and we went to Vegas this past weekend and the chair never left the trunk! He walked EVERYWHERE and he did fine! We were amazed at his progress! We went last year and we used that thing every single time we got out of the car! Not this time!

Does your daughter have to wear braces? He wore braces prior to the surgery, but his tendons were so tight that the braces didn't really help, as he would be on his toes inside the braces, his tendons were just that tight. Now his feet/legs are "braceable" but he doesn't even use them or any other "equipment" on weekends, just for school or else his teachers freak out.

They are very overprotective and rightly so! He falls a lot and gets hurt really bad sometimes, but after a good cry, he just gets right back up and at 'em...

well no her pediatrician says its no big deal, but her dad and my mom, keep saying something is wrong, she spends 99 percent of her walking time on her tip toes.. her front part of her foot seems to be widening, hard to find shoes for her.

Her calf muscles seems very tight to me.. so I cant help but wonder if her calf muscle hurts.
she is going to be 2 at the end of august and has been tip toeing since 1.

she does put her foot down some, but not often. she can even stand for long periods on her toes.
she doesnt have any thing on her feet, because her pediatrician said all babies walk on tip toes, and I have five so I should know this, but this seems different.

Yes, my son's feet are wide and seems like the heels were smaller than they should have been...

Maybe you could ask your pediatrician to refer you to an orthopedist just to be sure and see what he/she says? Just get a checkup, no biggie...

Hmmm... She has been tiptoeing for a whole year! And her balance is good?!? No wonder the doctor is not worried. My son would be falling and really hurting himself. He was very unstable so my H and I thought it was really something that needed correcting in spite of all the previous intervention our son has experienced.

I remember when my twins' pediatrician thought there was nothing strange about my daughter developing breast buds at age 4 We asked for a referral and went to see an endocrinologist and guess what??? YES! She has a condition that affects 1 in 10,000 called "precocious puberty." The pediatrician did not recognize it, but the specialist did. This is a condition where the little girl's body is producing too much estrogen and these little bitty girls (sometimes infants!) are on the verge of menstruation!!! Even tho they are twins, my daughter stands head and shoulders above her brother due to her bone growth being 5 years ahead of what it should be!!!

MO5, I would get a referral if I were you, just to be sure. She's still a baby so you probably would want to hold off on any invasive procedure until after she's 4 cuz the older they are, the more likely that they won't need to go back in there and cut some more!!! Our twins are 7. Good luck with this!!! Try not to worry too much, tho. Worrying never gets us (moms) anywhere but Stressville!!!

I just took my 8 year old to the dr, for the same thing, she had a knot in her breast she said hurt.
we have an appt scheduled with a specialist, but not till a few weeks.

I suppose your right, I should have her checked again for peace of mind. She has great balance runs like crazy, talks ninety miles an hour, climbs, gets in to everything.. wow I am tired just thinking about her getting up in a min. lol
Thanks I appreciate your response.

Yes, my daughter complained that her "boobies hurt" for months and months until the treatment finally began a year ago... Poor little thing! (injections in her butt every 3 weeks until we say FINE, let her go ahead and menstruate cuz once the shots stop, the hormones rage again--OH and, she hates the shots, fights it every single time with her big self--kicking, screaming, writhing, the works!)

Gosh, I hope your daughter doesn't have it. Maybe she just bumped herself or something? In any case, I wish you all the best. Your little baby sounds just too cute!! RUNNING around on her tiptoes!? Too cute!!!

our pediatrician said it was early development, but he didnt say there would be any thing we can do about it, He also said he had a seven year old that mornign with the same thing...
she is a very active child and throws fits on a regular basis, how ever I never thought her moodyness could come from, hormones .. WE adopted her when she was almost three and she cam with so many problems I just contributed these fits to more of the same.

I will look forward to talking to another doctor , I hope your right, she is not menally functioning as a 8 year old as it is, and I would hate to see her have to deal with the onset of her period as well, I cant imagine that being good.
AND i KNOW mY husband and I are not ready to deal with this. But gosh if there could be help out there for it, I sure want to know.
I will let you know what the dr. says when we go see her.

Hmmm...

Well you know, my daughter gets the shots and they DO manage her hormone levels but NOT her moodswings!!! She gets so angry and throws fits and she's just unbearable sometimes. Finally, this weekend I couldn't take it anymore (her PMS moods and MY PMS/perimenopausal moods CLASH bigtime!!!) So I just let her know that I'm not going to put up with her bad attitude any more, that's it. I admit too, sometimes I get so enraged I have to <pause> and remember what a miracle baby she was (25-week preemie) and how blessed I am to have her and her brother in my life!!! Still I fly off the handle sometimes and lose control of my emotions (yell)...

Then, she comes back and says, "I'm sorry, mommie" We hug, and it's over.

I think even SHE is confused by her own moods! Her dad and I certainly get our fill of her moods! My poor H! Between the two of us (she and I)--he definitely has his hands full!!!! PLEASE PRAY FOR US and I'll be praying for YOU TOO!!!! Yes, do let me know what happens with both of your girls!

Good Morning Ladies...
I know this is more or less a "private" conversation...but I wanted to add this thought..

As a child I loved to walk on my tip toes, too. My grandmother called me her "little ballerina."
I never walked flat footed unless I was in shoes.

This actually continues to this day... and I am 33 yrs old... I love it! I don't have a clue as to why, but I do.
I worked in fast food for 10 yrs, and all of the shoes that I wore to work were all turned up on the toes... they looked like elf shoes.
There is nothing wrong with my feet.. I just do it out of habit...

Mof5, you mentioned that she has tight calves? My calves are very defined as well. I am a large woman... and my legs look like they belong on a woman much smaller... (I am an apple shape.. LOL.. largely due to PCOS.)

I just wanted to let you know that sometimes things like this are just habits... I pray that your little girl is doing this because she likes it.. makes her feel taller... I think that is why I did/do it... I am only 5'3" and my H is 6'1"!!!

((HUGS)) to all your children, Mof and BTDT... and both of you too.
