Ok, my wife and I live apart right now due to my military status. She is in school right now and has a part time job that gets her by. Right now I pay for 2 cars, insurance, cell phone bill and 2 credit cards. I would usually take over financial responsibility of my wife as far as how she spends her money, but because we live apart I cant. As for the problem, I pay for the bills when she goes out on her paycheck and spends upwards of $100 just to go out to eat in a week. This gets old real quick. This sort of thing has gone on for the 2 years of our marriage. I dont mind paying for the bills as long as she takes some finiancial responsibility herself. I have known her for eight and a half years now and she has no savings account. I have been putting money away for both of us in the last 2 years. She filed bankruptsy in Aug 03 from a previous relationship. She is unable to take care of herself financially because of this, but doesnt understand that she needs to start rebuilding. I have talked to her about this multiple times in the last few years, but it doesnt change. How do I make her realize that she needs to quit spending and start saving. We have a car that will be up for refinancing next year and neither of us will have the money to do get it back. What do I tell her...AGAIN?

Hey Navykat, Ya, your situation must be difficult for you and probably for your wife as well. As for taking over financial resposibitlity for your wife... what do you mean by this? Is she asking you for an allowance? As for solutions to the problem, if you are paying for everything (all the bills)... first another question: does your wife make enough money to help you with the bills? If so, why not ask her to open a checking account and transfer some of the bill payments to that account as Automatic withdrawl payments ? The bills would go thru automatically through her chequing account and she would have to make sure that she puts the money away for the date that those bills go thru. I dunno... am I understanding your situation right? If not let us know some more details as to what you have done and discussed in more detail and we can take it from there...
Peace, Odyssey
