I am 47 years old. Working at a McJob flipping bergers. High School diploma. My Myers Briggs personality profile is INTP. My wife is INFJ. We agreed that I would meet financial needs. My wife would bring the "gravy". The little gravy is being spent on basic needs.
Here are the options the way I see it.
1) Work a sixty hour week. (We all know the consequences here.)
2)My wife works outside the home.(My wife says no.I agree)
3) I go to college. (After 2-3 years of college we have a huge debt. I don't have assurance I can get a job after college.)

In addition. I feel I have alot to offer society. When I was single, I did volenteer work. ie. painting, cleaning, cooking, yard work,50-60 hours a week. How ever now I am married.

Any ideas? Testimonials?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Cello,
Sorry you haven't received a response, yet...this board tends to be very slow in comparison to Emotion Needs...you should probably repost over there.

I'm not sure what your question is. It looks like the two of you have come up with some options to improve your financial situation and now you have to make a decision about which is best for you. I think only you two can make that decision together.

If I'm hearing your "question" correctly, I think you should add something else to your list. Do a very aggressive and extensive job search. Yes, you will be limited by lack of college, but you have skills/experience, so put them to use. While you continue flipping burgers, spend at least an hour a day looking for a better paying job. Check out Monster.com daily. Buy the newspaper on Sundays and look over the employment section. Where you live will play a big part in job opportunities, but don't give up. There are few jobs that pay worse than fast food joints, so start looking. At least start waiting tables at a restaurant where you can earn tips(this isn't to assume you haven't looked, but it sounds like you either haven't or have given up on finding a better job).

Perhaps combine getting a degree from a community college (they tend to be a lot cheaper and you can probably get financial aid) with finding a job that not only brings in a little more money, but also a job that better utilizes your skills and talents...something that makes you happier.

Good luck. I can only imagine your frustration. Carrying even one person on such a low salary is near impossible. If your wife is dependent on you, too, that must be an incredible struggle. It doesn't sound like you two have that luxury of just one person working.

Take care,
Smile

SmileADay Thank You for your insightfull advice. Being an INTP I need to stop thinking and start doing. Take responsability for steering this thing. I have come to the realization that if I continue coasting we are headed for the rocks. We are not bankrupt yet or have an insermountable debt.I will do an aggresive job search., and give the monster idea a shot. I will also practice my interview skills. ie. making a really good first impression and act more like a "sanguine" enthusiastic confident person rather then a reserved "phlegmatic" person.

My wife is an artist. She is very much affected by her enviroment. I prefer that she work at home as well.

Other areas of our marriage are good and, with Gods grace we are working on making it better. Thanks again
