Howdy...
I was wondering, what books (Apart from the wonderful ones that Dr. Harley wrote and we apply to our situations) have helped you the most?
Here are a list of the ones I feel that has gotten me through some harrowing times. I am interested in yours.
1. "Forgiving the Unforgiveable" by David Stoop (this book was a major breakthrough for me)
2. "Am I still Not God?" by Kathy Troccoli
3. "Just Enough Light for The Step I'm On" by Stormie O'Martin (who's "Power of A Praying Wife" is powerful and recommended too)
4."The Red Sea Rules" By Robert J. Morgan
5. "Strong Medicine" by Dr. Millicent Hunter
6."Help me! I'm Married!" by Joyce Meyer
7. "Woman...thou art loosed!!!" By T.D. Jakes.
All of Doctor Harley's books are excellent, I am re-reading "His Needs, Her Needs" again...incidentally, I read it first when I was living in a homeless shelter with my 3 month and 19 month old baby girls when I was abandoned by my first Husband.
Of course....even with the above list, to me, nothing replaces the Bible. These books have given me tremendous insight and helped me evaluate my place in all that I'm going through.
I can't wait to hear about what helped y'all...
Hugs and prayers, Twiisty

You know, back then I was so traumatized by all the things that were happening, I just couldn't believe it, accept it or get over it, so I bought ALL the books on the shelves at Barnes and Noble, and skimmed them all, taking snippets from one and looking up things in the index pertaining to my situation, desparately looking for answers and reasons to how this could happen. I wish I would have studied in school like I studied those self help-infidelity books...I would have graduated with a PHD from the School of Hard Knocks and been valedictorian, too.
I couldn't tell you what I read or if I retained it because I read these things without ever looking at the cover and through a veil of tears. I was so pathetic, it's embarrassing. But I can tell you, whatever I read, I tried to apply the helpful stuff to my situation.
My D-Day was October 1998 but I didn't find Marriage Builders until May 1999, but in the meantime, I did find Retrouvaille, which was like a concentrated Marriage Builder weekend where Bipolar and I both received a lot of information and tools for recovery.
And, nothing beats the Bible....it's been #1 on the bestseller list for two thousand years.
Love

This will sound funny
But the book is called [who moved my cheese] It is an awesome self help book.
for those who have not heard of this, it is a self help book about how to make life changes.. what do you do when your life has been one way for many years, and all of a sudden it changes.. do you keep waiting right where you are stuck... or do you move a head with a new plan for life..
Fits almost any situation, it is a great book. [ July 30, 2002, 06:42 PM: Message edited by: mom of five ]

I have just discovered an awesome book. It piggy backs on Dr. Harley's emotional needs theme. It is called The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. He talks about how we don't speak the same "language" with our spouse. It made perfect sense. I always felt that my husband and I had the same arguments over and over. I think these lessons will break that cycle. He also has a book called Hope for the Separated. I haven't read it, but I am buying it today. The website is http://www.moodyconferences.comThey also offer conferences. They are reasonable ($75 per couple). It has made a huge difference in my life.
