Okay, I've recently learned that you can do DNA testing through the mail/internet. Can anyone tell me who they used and how to contact the company? Also, how does it work without a doctor taking the samples? Is it very accurate that way? I know that's a bunch of questions, but being raised by a RN I wonder how accurate it can be when us "mere mortals" are sending the samples in ourselves.

Oh yeah, forgot to ask. About how much did this cost? I know the price doesn't matter, but I'm sure you all know how it is to live on a budget.

i don't know much about this, but have a looked at a few of the websites. it's been awhile but i remember that the drawback was that it was not admissable in court. i suppose that is because normally you swab your own cheek and there is no supervision or guarantee that the person didn't swab someone else's cheek!! anyway, i think it cost around $400. but it varied a lot depending on how many people were tested and whether or not the mother would also be tested. i also know that the child support office would have done the dna testing. possibly free, depending on the circumstances. it could be a good way to go, especially for those in different states than oc. (we were too.) but when you deal with child support office remember that they are in the business for money. they will establish paternity and help to establish child support, but they do not care about visitation or quality of care, etc. it's just not their job. (i used to work there.) good luck.

I live in texas we did the dna through a company in california. I would have to look up the name, It cost 200 dollars.
well you can take the kit to your local dr and ask them to take the swab and a nurse or dr can sign off on it and seal it if you wish.
You can ask ow to do that as well if you do not trust her.

We did the samples ourselves, together and mailed it together it is just a cheek swab and they tell you how to do it, very easy.
Our dna is not legal in a court of law, it was only for our peace of mind. But it would have been if we had wittnesses as long as they were over 18. The results came back to me because I paid for it. I shared with him and when he was ready he told me to email them to him at home, so I did. then gave him copies.
It was painless and easy. I think it was more upsetting to see it on paper even when I knew, it was still a shock.

Thanks for the input. MOF, let me know the name of that company if you find it. I've been trying to look, but there are tons of them and I want to make sure that I use an accurate one (not some money scheme thing).

I have to laugh at the not trusting someone to swab their own mouth or swabbing someone else's for the baby (I guess). Why in the world would someone do that? Then the test would always come back as negative, wouldn't it? She surely isn't going to swab one of my kids mouths, lol, and that's the only way I could see that you could "fake" the test. Unless you're trying to prove that it's not his. Sorry, just found that funny. Of course, I haven't had much sleep so it might be funny to me because I'm brain dead today!!

I think where the trust issue would most likely come in is, making sure the father really swabbed his own mouth if he did not want to be the father...
But your right it would be difficult for her to swab the wrong mouth. haha I am tired to but Let me go find my paperwork and I will get back with you.

Duh, told you I'm brain dead today. Just got stuck on the part about having OW go to a doctor for swab if we didn't trust her. Didn't even think of him using someone else's mouth, lol. Guess I should have, huh? I'll be waiting for your response. Work has finally calmed down so I can pop in and out more often than earlier today.

ok I still had a copy on computer. so this is the place we used. If you use them make sure results are sent independent of ow, so you recieve the same notice. Once results are done and mailed they do not keep records so keep your paperwork.

Remember have to have witnesses to make it legal.
we only did ours incase his wife accused me of lying, Turns out his wife had used birth control their entire marriage, only I didnt know it, because he said he had a vasectomy. duh what a dummy I am. Of course he new I wasnt going to ask her if he could have babies.. I was such a trusting sole.. wonder why someone trust someone that is obviously lying to his spouse and probably you in the process... hhhmmm seem to have lost my head for a time. lol

oh one more thing I did not get tested, cause we know who the mommy is... so that makes it a little cheaper. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

I looked at their site, but didn't see anything about paternity testing. What do I need to look at?

I know I looked at it to, thats the right name, its on my paperwork.. let me do some searching I will find it.

Explanation of DNA Profile:
Nine discrete locations on several different chromosomes were used to construct the DNA profiles for each individual tested. Table 1 shows om-Alleged Father to have identification markers 21 & 22 at the FGA STR chromosome location and OC-Child to have identification markers 21 & 24 at the same STR chromosome location. This suggests that identification marker 21 was passed from OM -Alleged Father to OC-Child. Results from other identification markers are also listed in Table 1. Each marker has an established probability of occurrence in the general population and among different ethnic groups.

This is how some of the stuff is worded on paperwork, explains some of the testing, it was really very intresting.

I think the cs agency can arrange it all for you. OM and I didnt want to do that, beause we didnt want to go to court, or have them decide how we do anything, we felt that we would do better on our own.

I don't think H is wanting to go through court either. In fact, I'm 99.9% sure that he doesn't want to go to court. Don't ask why; don't know for sure except he doesn't want to look like the bad guy in all this mess.

well doing it on your own will cost you less money, but you have to make sure our husband and you and ow can agree on matters and work together.. if that will be difficult, you might as well forget it and go to court.

I don't know what they're going to do. H seems afraid to push her for anything because he doesn't want her "giving him h#ll". I don't know; feeling depressed tonight. Missing him and tired of all the crap. Think I'll just go to bed shortly--that is if I can get the kids in bed.
