My husband and I have been married for 7 1/2 years. We have two beautiful children (5 & 3). After each child's birth, I experience post-partum depression. I only took medication after the second child was born. I was already experienceing ppdepression and then my father passed away suddenly due to dr. error when she was 4 months old. I have been on a variety of anti-depressants and have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder. In general, I don't feel well a majority of the time. My husband and I have become more like roomates in the past few years.
Due to my anti-depressant, sleep medication, and the depo-provera shot (birth control), and the depression I have absolutely no desire for sex. (I have noticed, however, that when the 3 months between depo-provera shots comes to an end, I do see a small amount of desire return).
But, the point of my question is....could the long times (4-6 months) between each instance of intercourse be causing the pain I am experiencing during intercourse? We have tried to use K-Y, but I experience pain deep inside when he penetrates me. It takes a while for it to go away and he has to basically edge in a little at a time. It is almost like I am a virgin, but I don't remember it hurting this much the first time.
I am just wondering if I have something else wrong with me....or if it is just a lack of lubrication (even with K-Y) from non-arousal and long periods between intercourse?
Thanks for your help.

may be psychological. there is a condition that makes sex imposibble or nearly impossible due to pain. can't recall the name for it, but usually only happens to women that have been raped. only a ob can tell you for sure though.

I have the same problem. Sex always hurt, sometime more bearable than othet times. A few years ago, I found out I have fibroids (very heavy periods and now under contol on birth control pills) and a tilted uterus. The Dr. can't say for sure that cause the pain. I never had kids and at 47 not planning to. Dr. suggested hysterectomy. That's out of the question.

Check out the resources on Interstitial Cystitis and Vulvondynia (vulvar/vaginal pain). Both can cause or contribute to pain during sex. Here is an earlier post I made on this subject with links:

I experienced the exact same things (no desire for sex AND extrememly painful intercourse). Go see you OB-GYN. It could be endometriosis and/or you could need estrogen cream that you apply using an applicator (for short term use) b/c your hormones are out of whack. Good luck!
