So I'm doing my toenails the other day and I'm putting quite a lot of time & energy into it to make them look cute w/ little flowers and such and I realized and started thinking......
1) I sure do have a lot of time on my hands & 2) Do women in other states do this?
See, is this only a CA 'thing'? I'm too ghetto to pay for a pedicure so I do it myself but it's something that it seems "everyone" does or gets done.
It's not just a foot massage, we really go all out for our "toesys"! We have flowers painted on, french manicures w/ little rhinestones and flowers and hearts or something themed like a tiny flag for 4th of July, polka dots, stripes ect. and this is all just for the toes! LOL
I mean we do have 'free' feet, that are out of shoes quite a bit so maybe that is why? We are in flip-flops, sandals and opened-toed shoes at least %80 of the time if not more.
I even paint my almost-2-yo daughters toenails w/ flowers (been painting them since she was 4 days old, she's my first & only girl) She won't even let me cut her toenails unless I paint them too.
Hope this doesn't ruin anyone's impression of me as that 'strong, wise woman'. LOL Maybe I am just shallow or maybe just lots of fun!.

KT,
That's a take care of you type of thing. I go every other week for my pedicure and manicure (tips). We must keep these things up! My H would have a fit if I were to wear sandals and my feet were not done.
We keep The toesys up because it makes us feel good and look lovely. So No I agree keep up the good work! Those toesys deserve it.

ktbunch,
Count me in for the pedicure club!! and I too am in California!!
I have 2D's and always did theirs too!! Now....at the wonderful 40's I go and pay for a manicurist to do it!
My Aunt has always been in health care here in Ca. and said that nurses look at womens toes....If they have manicured toes they get better care!
Nurses where she works assume that if a woman doesn't take good care of her feet she doesn't take good care of herself period....NOW if we didn't have a reason BEFORE hearing this....WE DO NOW!!!!!!!!!!! all in the name of good health care!
Blessings, Atruheart

Ahhhhh, one of life's greatest, yet simple pleasures...a pedicure. I don't get them done professionaly so much anymore after becoming a sahm again. If I can't justify a manicure and a ped, I always opt for the pedicure. We let our DD get a manicure and pedicure for Prom, and now's she's sold on professional peds too!
Unlike all you lucky Californian's, it seems my feet are in muk-luks 80% of the time. So when it's time to break out the sandles, you better believe my tootsies look great! Wouldn't dream of going out without them at least painted. In dire situations, (ie: procrastination), I've been known to do them on the fly in the car with my feet on the dash.
Now to gross you out...One autumn, I decided to see how long into the winter it would take till my nail polish came completely off my toes. My toes didn't have to look good again till vacation in early March. I kept my nails trimmed and all, but never removed the polish. By January, my H finally said, "Would you take the rest of those little paint chips off already?...I feel like I'm going to bed with a grubby little girl or something."
I don't think this thread ruins anyone's impression of you kt. It proves that somewhere on the other side of the pain, is a normal, fun life again. It's good to find in joy in the simple things of life once again! I for one, never thought I would.
Take good care.

It must be a Southern thang too!!! I dont go for pedicures I do them my self. I cant stand for anyone to touch my feet.I wear a size 6 and have short little toes and keep my t. nails a little longer than most. I like to paint designs on them. I most of the time have 2-3 colors and some kind of strip, star, ect. I painted mine one time w/dk blue w/glow in the dark stars and moons, which was in some clear polish I found. My feet are so small they stick out anyway, and when I paint them like I do everyone trips. H saids can't you paint them one color every once and a while? My D's live it! We do alot of different things to theirs too. Thanks for having something fun to talk about. OH P/S I'm also just at 5' tall so my feet do match my body! LOL. Sunny

Hi all, Well, I'm a southern belle living in exile in CA (howdy, neighbors). I never did the pedicure thing till H said he thought it was cool. Now I let him pick the colors, he thinks it's neat. I wear sandles more here, so I've decided I like it too. I think it's the little things like that that my H appreciates... he knows I do it for him. - Dru

Love to have my toes painted--that is about all the time I take--I know need to do more me time--has made me resentful.
I'm not creative with putting things on them, but I love to have them painted--can't stand them not to be painted. However, I usually take off polish and go a day or two before I put it back on so my little toe nails don't turn all yellow.
Hate to even look at my feet without polish--have really long toes--they seem like they are half my foot--anyway polish draws attention away from it.
I'm telling you girls I find it hard to find time to do it but I love it. So now that KT brought it up I will have to take note and make more time because I really do like it.
I'm not sure if H cares-but I have neveer asked--just assumed he didn't because he never comments on it.

Just another thought about the toes - My H always comments about me taking care of myself. H wants me to dress up everyday like I did when we first married and he wants me to keep my fingernails and toes done.
H even took me to get them done last month he got a pedicure with me it was fun,but I always am so busy doing for the children that I never remember to pamper myself. So that is what I will do get into shape and keep pampering me I deserve it and so do you!!!

Always have my Florida toes painted and professionally pedicured.... i prefer the French polish.
One day at Home Depot this man approached me and said, "you have the cutest toes"....hmmmm, what's up with that?

Being a SAHM /part-time-home-health-care-worker (how's that for a title?) paying for a pedi/mani is a bit frivolous @ this point (not that I wouldn't love to afford that frivolity! )
So I do make time to do it myself. I've become pretty skilled w/ a toothpick.
I go to my mom's once a week so I pull out her foot soak/massager and do the best I can for myself.
I also refuse to go out w/ chipped nails and have also spiffied up in the car w/ the foot on the dash thing. Either no polish or good polish but NEVER chipped polish----too tacky!
I won't even let my little one go out w/ chipped polish, if so then she has to wear shoes and socks to cover them up.
I'm a chronic nail biter so...I don't like to attract too much attention to my hands but now I use the glue on (think 'frugal'--can't afford to get them done, I'm gonna teach myself soon) My H loves my nails done this way and I have been getting lots of compliments.
So thanks for taking time-out to respond to something a little less "thought provoking"!
Gonna go fix up my toesys again since my flower rubbed off! Gonna try to make a butterfly. LOL
PS: I also have really long toes, joke that I have 20 fingers! AND I am very skilled @ picking things up w/ my feet, a very "handy" skill to have when your 8-9 mos pg! (no, not currently ) [ May 27, 2004, 05:31 PM: Message edited by: ktbunch ]
