My oldest didn't go with the other two to my sil's for the week. Instead, one of his buddies is coming down tomorrow and spending his last week with us. Then next weekend I'll drive them both back home. My ds lives with my ex about 4 hours away .
Know what? 14 is hard on a momma. My kid's now taller than me, out weighs me, and has hair everywhere....(((sigh))) Who the heck gave him permission to grow up? Cause I've got a bone to pick about that one. He also had a (gasp) girl call the other night....since when do girls call boys? I was never allowed to call a boy - even if he was just a friend. Am I just hopelessly behind or what? It's enough to make a mama wake up in a sweat in the middle of the night....IT WAS JUST YESTERDAY THAT HE WAS A TOWHEADED TOT THAT WAS CONVINCED THAT THE SUN AND MOON SET ON ME! When did I get shoved off that pedestal in favor of firecrackers, guitars, drums, and skateboards?
I am so proud of him...he is such a joy...even tho 14 is filled with so much....teenaged angst for lack of a better term....The kid has the BEST sense of humor, and an amazing capacity for unselfishness - which, for 14, is a miracle in itself. Straight A's, tennis team, plays the drums (very well, I might add) in a garage band....and yes, has long hair. I figure with the A's and all that he's such a good kid, that hey, it's only hair. I did a lot worse to my own hair in high school (shudder).
Wanna hear a funny? The other day we're talking (that's another thing - 14 can still be super silly, but it's also able to hold a decent intelligent conversation). He told me once his band hits it big, he's gonna pay off my mom's mortgage and buy me my own beach house. (sniff) How sweet is that? He's also gonna get me a cleaning lady......I almost fainted.
I tell him - I'm sure his sick to death of hearing it - he is EXACTLY what I wanted when I asked God for a son!
Thought I'd share. We find our joy and hold it close to us now - those of us that have found our way here - because we so know how precious and tenous joy can be.

Yep, he's got momma's heart ! It's kinda like when you see them sleeping, Oh they look like angels! You seem to forget about them being lettle devils at times! LOL. I love to lay w/ my D and play w/ her hair, rub her back. You know my mom really didn't do that and I think thats why I do so much touching with them. I always have. Since they came out, well dr took them out, but I want them to remember my touch! And that I did show them affection. And the calling, well I wasn't allowed to have a boy call until I was 16! now my 11 yr old has a cell phone and she has her "just friends" call her. But you know, they are not ours to keep. Our children belong to God and he has seen that we will love them and raise them the way he wants them to be. But they are to LEAVE their mother and father and be one with someone oneday. So yes we do have to let them go, but until then we can hold, touch and show them that we love them! ANd enjoy every minute we have with them. Sunny D

Kimmy
I too asked God for a son & he granted me that wish, I never wanted a daughter so I could not ask for more. I raised him by myself basically, bio dad didnt have time, & step dad was 2 busy trying to grow up himself. Overall I think I did a pretty good job. He is not where I would like him to be, in college, but he has to find his own way, be his own man. He graudated HS, doesn't do drugs, has no children & he works. In this day & age that is saying a lot.
I told a co-worker yesterday to cherish the time she has w/ her little ones, her baby graduated from pre-K yesterday, cuz soon she will be at her HS graduation & she will go away to school maybe. The yrs. really do fly & you can't get them back. My boy (man) is truly my heart & I thank God for him daily.
P.S. He is my heart, but I know & I am ready to let him go & have his own life & look forward to the day I am "Gandma". No time soon I hope I need at least 5 yrs. or so to get ready for that.
