I know I butchered the spelling, but what does that mean? My wife had her cumlative numbers done again today and they are rising very slowly. BUt they told her that her progesterone levels are low. How bad is that?

Also, because life would be boring if it was easy, she may not only have one baby, but also a autaptic pregnency. I know that the autaptic one has to be terminated, can they do one w/o the other? I realize this is not a medical board, but I would love to hear anything on the topic, even if it is a guess.

Thanks

Hi cantthishelp! The ectopic is a tubal pregnancy in which the fertilized egg has implanted outside the uterus in the fallopian tube. They will have to abort that fetus and I dont know the procedure on that or the effects it will have on the other fetus...as far as the low progesterone levels...this is usualy an indication that the preganancy is not going well and may miscarry...but this may also be an indication of the ectopic pregnancy that is causing the low levels...I dont know that much about it...

if you type in low progesterone on google and ectopic pregnancy you will get a load of sites that will explain it in detail...HTH

I can tell you ALL about low progrestone. I have that problem. I had to be on progretone every pregnancy I've had. A normal progrestone level should be while pregnant between 15 and 17, but can be as low as 12 to make it vialable. It's part of the harmone process that shows the doctors how the pregnancy goes. Most OB's won't prescribe progrestone, but a harmona doctor will ie a fertility specilist. I have always spent my first 12 weeks of pregnancy (or when it I would loose the baby) with a fertility specilist becasue I was always on progrestone. well I always went through treatment before I got pregnant so I was with the the doctor before I got pregnant too, except with my last who came without any help. Have they done an Ultra sound yet to verify she has two pregnancies? I would type in progrestone levels for pregnancy to learn more on google or something. Progrestone plays a big part in the whole harmonal thing in woman and that search will narrow it down. I hope your wife is okay. I'm surprised the doctor did not go into more detail about the etopic.

Thanks for the info.

The reason I could not give you more info is that my WW only goes to the Dr. with the OM and I have to pick her brain for information.

She has another U-sound on Friday, and that will hopefully tell the whole story. Since her quantitative numbers are going up, I believe that this will result in a normal P.

What then?

cth,

How far along is your W? And if you don't mind, what is her age?

I also have a problem with low progesterone... I have lost 3 babies, that I know of, because of it.

I had to take progesterone supplements for the first trimester when I was pregnant with my son.
My progesterone and HGC counts were monitored for the first several weeks because my pregnancy was considered high risk.

I am inclined to agree with autumnday that your WW is definitely in the fog and not telling you the truth.

Stacia_lee,
My WW is 34 and conception date was 6/17 or 6/18 (2 days before fathers day, thanks honey)

I do not know how foggy my WW is, but I think her levels of Pro. were right around 5.0, which I think is borderline not pregnent. So I do not know.

I would not be suprised at all if she is lying at some levels, probably a lot of levels.

Time will tell. Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

cth,
When was the level taken? That it was a 5?

When TTC (trying to concieve) my progesterone levels were very low... Progesterone is the hormone that helps to sustain a pregnancy by thickening and preparing the uterene lining.
When TTC they want to see the level around 15.
This was BEFORE concieving.

My level when I got pregnant with Baby Mac was 2. Thus requiring me to be placed immediately on supplemental progesterone pills once they confirmed I was indeed pregnant.
Once being placed on the supplements, my level raised quickly and to a safer level to carry to term.

You mentioned ultrasounds.
Has your W seen the heartbeat? Possibly a yolk sac? It may still be too early to see them, considering she is technically about 6 wks along (you add about 2 wks before conception date too)

Sorry to sound so medical... but I just went through all this a year and a half ago...

The level was taken Monday of this week.

They have not placed her on any type of supplement, but she did go buy some Pro. cream and I think is using it.

I think there is a yolk sac, but no heartbeat yet. Friday is the next U-sound and I expect that they expect to hear a heartbeat.

Do not worry about sounding medical, I need to understand what is going on. Knowledge is power. I feel pretty weak right now.
