is ther anyone out there who has knowledge of the niagra falls and finger lake section of new york?
i am trying to plan a get away for fh and myself. i have heard that the sheridan falls view hotel on the canadian side is very nice while at the falls. but what about the finger lake, glenn falls and maybe lake placid areas?
is it concieveable to drive to some or all of these areas without spending the whole week in the car.?
are ther any real nice little romantic hotels, motels, or inns that you would recommend for a night or two in any of these areas?
the time of the trip would be mid to late october. fh has not traveled very much and i have always wanted to take her to see the falls and the fall colors of upstate new york, the maine area, or down at around the delaware water gap.

It is a bit of a hike from Niagara Falls to Lake Placid. If you do go to Lake Placid, I recommend the Mirror Lake Inn. It's on the expensive side, but it is absolutely gorgeous. http://www.mirrorlakeinn.com/

I live in the Buffalo area.
Let me look into it. I know that the Canadian side has much more to oofer, including better views of the falls. The finger lakes/lake Placid is 4 or so hours from here, depending on your average speed.
Do you like Casino's? There is a nice new one in the Falls, both US and Canada side.
Sounds like fun.
I will try to get more info this week.

I agree, the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid is lovely. However, I think that the distance between the Finger Lakes to Lake Placid is more like 6 hours. Lake Placid is a good 2 hours north of Albany.
