Just got a call, A (OC)went to doc, he's not gaining enough weight. SO they are doing an upper G/I in the am and if its not good he will be taken into surgery. Just pray for him. He is so small and I just need to know that God has his hands on him. PPLLEEAAASSEE! Thanks.

I hope everything works well for OC tomorrow. I will say a prayer for him now. Take care of yourself and H.

sorry to hear that, BUT I have to be honest with you doing an upper GI and then going to surgery DON'T usually go together in an infant. I suppose he is not gaining weight because of excessive reflux and they are doing this upper GI series/? EGD to see what is going on. I would NOT be worrying yourself about surgery. Taking an infant to the operating room is not a decision that we take lightly, and I think you should just try and clam down a little, and wait till there is more information. What I bet is going to happen is that they are going to do an upper gi series (which is like an Xray) and if that shows them anything they will do an upper GI scope....which is NOT surgery and carries minimal risk.

They said something about his esophogus(sp- i know that was all wrong) either closing or not developed? I couldn't imagine surgery on a 8 week old unless life threating. You know. And thank everyone for their prayers and support.

Yes KT, and remeber her too. She is. I mean he has had some other trouble since he has been here and been at the dr office just about every week. She is alone, well we would be there if they did anything to him, but tonight she is alone and she needs our prayers too. I would call her but I would just cry so, better I dont. I'm just sad for him, hes been though so much already. Thanks. gone for day, puter at home on blink so just keep all of us in your prayers.

It's usually found earlier than 8 weeks, so perhaps not... This means there is a connection between the trachea and the esophagus ... and the babe's little tummy fills with air, and he cries all the time from the discomfort.

Prayers Sunny... this will all turn out OK, you'll see.

ditto what Pep said. I had surgery for this at 7 wk, but it's more common in boys. It's considered a common birth defect.

It causes a gradual closing up inside that results in baby not being able to keep anything down... spit up eventually becomes projectile (sorry for graphics). By the time I had surgery, I couldn't even keep water down and was severely dehydrated. It should not be allowed to get that bad before diagnosis+surgery!

Sunny, I thought of this when you mentioned the reflux-y behavior, but didn't say anything. Maybe he has this instead. It's easily fixed, but I'll say a prayer anyway.

God be with little A, his docs, parents, and Blessed Stepmommy.

Sunny~ Prayers for you, little guy, your entire family, and his other mommy. Having a little one myself, the thought of him going through this type of procedure is not a pleasant one to say the least. He will be fine, I just know it, and you have trust in the greatest Physician there is. He'll see you all through.

As a Mom who knows the anguish, worry, and stress of having a sick newborn, my heart really does go out to you and your family...

It can really take a toll...and watching Dr's "hurt" (not on purpose of course) a little one you love is HEART WRENCHING!

(My older son was born with severe lung problems and was in NICU on a vent...)

Thanks Pep, but I'm officially an *expert* now!! LOL!!
My boy is almost 10 now, and we've finally gotten his meds right...I *think*...LOL!

BTW, your sig line reminds me of that Steven Wright joke:
"I went to bed last night and when I woke up this morning all my furniture had been stolen and replaced with exact duplicates."
LOL!

Sunny - babycenter.com (I know, I know - I tout them entirely too much) would have info on this. I think you'd be surprised at how common this is...doesn't make it any less personal or scary, tho. Just watch - once you all know what's going on and get the meds/treatments straight, the little guy will just take off like a bean sprout!

((((SUNNY/A/SUNNY'S DH/B...and OW just because it's so hard when they're so little))))))
