Hey KT. I know you cook alot and I need a receipe from you. I have a ham bone from yesterday and it's been years since I cook this soup with it. I use to just call it bean soup but I know it has another name. The thing is the girls don't like beans (thus the years since I cooked it) and is there another soup that I could cook that I could use that with? Or dish or something? They also don't like potatos unless they are fried and come in a McDonald's bag
If anyone else has one please let me know. I really want that bean soup or whatever it's called, but am up to suggestions that the kids will eat too.

Well NTMO here is a simple thing to do with that leftover hambone.

Growing up my son loved it and now our granddaughter says "more, Ma, more"

4 quarts water to simmer hambone in

1 stalk of celery chopped fined

1 large or 2 small onions chopped

4-5 large carrots scrubbed well and chopped

Simmer about 2 hours on low/simmer until vegetables are soft

Add 2 cans of french sliced green beans... You can use any other kind your family likes but we like french sliced.

Boil any type noodles on the side. Drain. Add noodles to a bowl and top with ham/vegetable broth.

You can also use rice...... and if you like potatoes other than McDonalds ...you can peel and dice them and add them the last 30 minutes of the soups' cooking time.

Serve with crusty bread and butter. Of course a romaine lettuce salad is great here too.

Hope this helps with that hambone NTMO!

Love
debi

Hey that sounds good. We don't like the french cut but the regular cut, and they like everything else you mentioned too. They love noddles. They've just gotten into soups here in the last year which is a good thing. Does it freeze weel too? Thank you!

Too bad they don't like cabbage- since ham and cabbage soup is DELISH...

Now, I assume they don't like cabbage- seems to me the kiddies are a little pickie (as are most!)... IF they do like cabbage for some reason, write back and I'll give you the recipe LOL!

Egg noodles are pretty good with ham soups, too !

ok I am just ROFL---------becuase I DO NOT cook alot! I am so flattered that you would think that though.

Cooking is one of my weaknesses.

It is one of my new years resolutions to cook more & really make the effort & then I know I will get better @ it. IT just does not come second nature to me like it does for so many.(I grew up having things like oatmeal for dinner )

Personally, I would have just tossed in the ham-bone w/ whatever I had on hand. THat's how I usually discover a soup recipe.

Glad someone else was able to suggest something.

Ha, KT!!!!! I remember little things (the dumb crap).. and I remember that you said you don't cook much-- cept "spagetti- like" meals w/noodles & stuff!!!! ha!

And soup IS all about throwing whatever the heck you have on hand...... some water... some broth and THEN ya have soup!!!

A little soup tip------ a real cheap and convenient (if you have no bullion or soup starter) IS RAMEN NOODLE packets!! The creamy chicken is soooooo good in chicken-based soups! I unwrap the packages and give the kids the hard noodles- they are weird and love to eat those hard noodles like chips !!!!

KT you are not gona turn over a new leaf- you are just gona find a new way to make meals without "really" cooking, right?? LOL!!!!

Love ya girl- hope you had a GREAT holiday!!!!!!!!

You better believe it!!!!!!!

Good thing I'm blessed w/ a not-so-picky-most-of-the-time-H! LOL

As long as it's ready & tasty (like me! ), he'll eat it!

I made up a new recipe the other night & he's asked for it again 2x: Egg & vegetable enchiladas!!! Can you believe that? Eggs? IT was DELISHous!!!!!!!

Did you know in France, the common dinner meal is EGGS? So we joke & say we're eating "French" tonight! LOL

Okay KT, maybe it goes back to the "flower child" thing I thought you were. I just remember you talking to others about exchanging receipes and figured since your so into your kids and home you were better at certain things than I? I use to be a great cook. I use to cook every single night and it was always good. For some reason though I can't find the time or energy to do it all the time now. Age? A new baby? Twins that are in school and have homework? I don't know........excuses? I really have a taste for that bean soup that I can't remember how to cook, but my kids hate beans and what a waste of the time and soup.
Ginovena..........great idea with the powder base season of those noddles. I would have never thought of that but your right! My kids love that stuff and it's so cheap too.

KT, we've been known to have cereal for dinner here once in awhile

NTMO---- don't forget-- creamy chicken is AWESOME .. it thickens ! I also use the noodles in stir fry instead of rice sometimes. All you do is stir fry your meat and veggie selections and mix up some of the store-bought stir fr sauces w/ them. THAT is good and easy too!

And, by the way... I CANNOT pass up this one... I laughed so hard ...

Ginovena ??? Hey, just cause I'm Italian does NOT mean I am a freakin sausage or a stick of pepperoni!!! hahahahahahaaa!!! Loved that one!!!!

That is a great idea with the stir fry....sounds like you know your "roman noddles" girl! Sounds like you've been there done that. I love that stuff as it's the cheapest stuff in the world, and the kids actually LOVE it. KT, excuse me but no need to answer my thread.......I've got Gio NOW. Okay Gio now that know this of you expect questions from time to time

But.. but but KT makes enchaladas! I don't know how to do that?????

Hey- my son STILL, at age 14, eats those CONSTANTLEY- all kids LOVE THEM. In fact, I had to force my son to eat anything else when he was little- and the same with my nephews. I think the Ramen noodle guys are a company that has a secret plan to slowly poison us with that crap! ha!

P.S. We all type like wild banchies on this site.. no worries!
Love, Giopepperonisausage
