Let me tell ya that the doggie clothes business is HIGHLY lucrative!!!!! What they charge for tiny dog clothes and BOOTIES is outrageous!
The stores that exclusively sell them charge crazy amounts ---- and the doggie booties are hin high demand. I know that I have found very little selection at Petco or big chains-- so this could be a nitch for those of you that sew or crochet!!!
The market is even better for little ankle biters like mine because they seem to be coddled more and treated more like the "toys" that they are!!!!
E-bay would be a GREAT place to sell them! People are NUTS about their little foo-foo dogs (like Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson and Brittney Spears, LOL!) I mean, these doggie booties go for like 30.00 a pop or something like that! They are so easy to make!!!!!!

You're crackin me up! I jsut found a pattern for doggie wear.
I once had a GUY ask me if I coudl crochet his dog some clothes becuase he saw me making my dd something. SO I totally believe it.
I find it sooooooooo hilarious.
I'm looking into it though becuase my ds keeps begging me to make something for my parent's mini chiwawa (sp? i know ).

The only problem with the doggie booties is they need a rubber sole like our shoes do. If you read about the rescue dogs from 9/11, you'll find that they went through several pairs of booties a day. The heat/cold can be felt through yarn/cloth. They need a waterproof, insulated, padded booties if they are going to be durable and effective.
I do make blankets, clothes, hats, bags, bibs, those baby grocery cart covers and numerous other items upon request. I just charge a small fee for my time.
I'm usually just making things for others because I enjoy doing it!
Now pet sweaters and costumes, THAT's a different story! I can see a large profit in that area!

I just want to let you know that I had to Google "Mary-Janes" because I had no clue what you were talking about! (Can you tell I have boys? )
Those are really cute! They look like they'd be easy to make to. Ohhhhhh, and you could sew little ruffled lace around the top edge for a little girlie-girl look (i love lace!). So cute! Oh Wait! Were these the pet ones? LOL! Too cute! They look like they would be perfect for pets too!
If I need a pattern, I usually just go up to our local fabric store. I've found a few good websites with patterns, but you can't really print them out. They will give you step-by-step directions though like "Cut a circle shape with a 16" diameter, then...". I'm pretty lucky in that I can usually sew something by vision/idea wise.
I don't really have the patience to crochet blankets, but for some reason I have no problem quilting! I think I just love my sewing machine!
Have you gotten into those felt blankets yet??? Those are fun and soooo easy! [ January 26, 2005, 08:47 PM: Message edited by: CheerfulLittleOne ]

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!
Felt or FLEECE? Where you just cut fringe on the edges? If so, sure have-love, love LOVE them. Especially for those w/ no sewing skills.
I like to sew up those pre-printed cloth books for the ktbunch. THey are 'sew' easy & make great gifts. I have made a few dresses.(for dd, niece & little friend)
I would LOVE to quilt but I have NO time. And it's much easier to take a crochet project to the dr office then my sewing machine & fabric! LOL
Quilting is one of those projects I plan to take up when the ktbunch is grown. You know...something for the grandkids! I am saving all my sam's (4.5 yo) button up shirts & dream of making a quilt out of them for him someday. Maybe when he has a child of his own or a wedding gift.(or maybe if he lives to be 18! LOL) But I am getting waaaay ahead of myself.
I feel like I am closer to my fantasy life of 'Little House on the Prairie' when I actually sew something.....Now if I could just obtain that little house in the woods! LOL

FLEECE!!!
Can you tell I've watched too much "Blues Clues" (Felt Friends)!!!
Oh! Wedding presents- I made a set of placemats, napkins, and a table runner for a friend of mine and they loved them!
Quilting is really fun. I would suggest making a "Mini Quilt" at first, just to get a feel for it. You can make it into a wall hanging when you're done.
And don't even mention Little House on the Prairie! That's my dream life era! (Although there wouldn't be internet )

I've dreamt of being Laura since I was a little girl w/ my own braids!( I did kinda look like her when I was little too)
Mini-quilt........can I take a mini-sewing machine w/ me to the dr.'s office? ;)LOL

How did I KNOW? LOL
My mom has a mini-sewing machine------it's crap!
The one I had for years (used to be my mom's--a real one, not mini) finally broke down a few months ago & so I got a new one-----but duh! I forgot to make sure it came w/ a cover/carrier! The old one had one.
My grandma (dad's side) used to be a semastress/upholsterer (sp?) so she helps me when I need it but then....if I ask her to help me it's TOO easy for her to just take the project & do it herself. kwim? LOL
enough crafy talk.........(call me out anytime on it though;))
gotta run....good night, kt

My aunt makes baby sweaters with matching hats, and people pay her $50 each for them. I couldn't believe it! They're adorable, too - but it only takes her a couple of hours to do one. She just laughs - they pay it, she'll take it!

Wait, wait, wait, back up a minute...
CLO, you make those grocery cart seat covers?
I have only seen one in my entire life, and it was last fall. I completely forgot about it till you mentioned it though. At the time I saw the cover, my H and I said, "cool, we gotta get one of those for baby!!" I meant to look on Ebay, but like I said, I forgot. Think I'd find one on there? I'd even love to get a hold of a pattern, if that's possible, and choose my own fabric.
**edited to add- Do you guys know how freakin' cold it is in Little House on the Prairie land? [ January 27, 2005, 08:51 AM: Message edited by: Autumn Day ]

I thought I was an old fuddy duddy for loving to crochet. My mom taught me when I was 8 yrs. old. She thought I needed busy work and sat me down with a hook and yarn everytime I needed something to do other then follow her around. Now I just can't seem to get enough of it, I just wish I could somehow simultaneously crochet and read a book....
I like Patons patterns. The ladies sweaters are classy. I've never gotten my hands on doggie patterns though...I wonder if you can't modify a child's turtle neck pullover and use a popcorn stitch instead of the post stitch I have on my pattern...any ideas?

I saw a FREE pattern online for a doggie sweater but it was more like a cape & had a strap that you button under thier tummy. I thought it was a bit funky & would have preferred the ones w/ leg holes..........but it's supposed to be easier.
If you have a really SMALL dog you can use a sock pattern, except add leg holes for the 2 front paws & not close it up for the head.
That's what my parents currently do for thier doggies, cut socks & it fits perfectly.
My parents are TOO attached to their dogs, sorry but when you start reprimanding your grandkids when the DOG bites.....I think there is a PROBLEM! LOL ********************************* THose grocery cart covers are the BEST! I've never seen a crocheted one but I had one from Babies R us & people asked me about it ALL the time. I forgot I even had it......great for this runny nose season too! germs...eeeeewwwwwweeeeee....yuck!

Angels- Thanks for the link, I'll check it out!
AutumnDay- They're really easy to make. They sell for about $50-$60 in the stores but only cost about $3 to make!
I just picked out my fabric, sewed elastic around the parameter and cut & trimmed two holes for the legs. With the elastic, it'll have a snug fit to any size cart. I couldn't tell you the measurements because I just eyed it. I think it took me 45 minutes to make!
Gio- If you can figure out how to get a good sole on the puppy paws I'll send you a set! Unless of course you have a foo-foo dog that gets carried everywhere, then they wouldn't need a "functioning" bootie- it would be just for show! And, yeah- I remember making those potholders too. They were UGLY

CLO - He is certainly not foo foo,he is a mini pinscher, the KING of the toys.. I SWEAR my stepdaugher and I dont put bows around (his) neck, necklaces on (him) ...oh and we CERTAINLY don't put a Disney Babies blankie on him and tuck him in at night... oh not me.. I was FRAMED! lol
KT the sock idea is great!! I am gona try that! I definitely know what you mean about the biting and grandkids thing-- the biting dog thing must be like ours-- he is so cute--- seemingly SOO very innocent, yet ANYONE who has come to the house is fair game for him to bite ... LOL!! He mostly preferres to bite kids though.. how sweet! haaaaaa The reason I chastise my nephewes and neices and kids is because the KIDS know that he is fine unless they throw him around and get crazy around him.... they do it on purpose and mess w/him so much cause he's so small!! They KNOW he's gona go psycho dog on them but they insist!! LOL
