STD Alert brought up a subject I have been wondering about for some time....in fact I had intended to post my own question here yesterday. So here goes:
Seven months after we married, I developed a case of what the doctor called honeymoonitis. He treated both my husband and I with antibiotics "Just in case". Two years ago my husband finally confessed that the woman he had a brief fling with before we married told him that she had clymidia. He says he can't remember when she told him and that he didn't tell me or get it treated because he had no symptoms...duh!!! (my daughter calls that "planned ignorance")....and that she was such a nut case that he figured that she was lieing (she is a nut case but that's beside the point).
My question is this: How long does it take for clymidia to show up? Is it possible that it wouldn't show up until seven months after we married? Or, do I have good reason to suspect that they may have gotten together again? Also, does clymidia keep coming back after you've been treated for it?
While I'm at it, I have another question. About 8 years ago my husband had himself tested for AIDs (sp?). He said that it was a ruotine check. I've never heard of anyone being tested for AIDs as a routine check....I thought you had to ask for it. Infact when I insisted that he get himself checked for STD's because he had lied to me too many times about everything else, he had to ask for it. Could he be telling me the truth about the ruotine test or am I just being a dimwit again and don't get it?
CJ
------------------
Psalm 42

CJ:
I thought I was the expert on STDs since that's the thing I happen to be doing now. I know I was tested for that at the public health clinic. You might give them a call at your county. Or just get on yahoo and search out the subject. That's where I got a lot of my information (including pictures, I'd hate to say).
I don't tend to think testing for HIV is routine unless you have behavioral reasons to get tested for it. You have to, I think, actually make a conscious decision to be tested. You don't get it just walking down the street.
I hope you keep watch. God bless.

I was tested for everything and you have to ASK... some are blood tests, some are those icky swab tests... most take two weeks for results.
Yes, it's horrid, but better safe than sorry... or dead.
ASK.

What's even worse is to go back for the six & then 12 months check (since there was new risk at 6 months) and keep saying "Yeah, my H is cheating on me, I need another round of swabs/blood done." The Dr. looked at me like I was/am a moron and asked if I knew about condoms. I am 40 years old! DUH all around. Even though I got an STD through H from OW and got treated, when he resumed the affair, he neither told me nor used condoms with her OR with me. And when I got the symptoms again, I asked him if he'd been with her. He lied.
Geez. No wonder I'm angry?

I had myself checked last month just to be sure. Came out clear...thank God. Sorry ladies, that stuff is ugly.It wasn't fun to have it right after I married. I must have been a real dimwit to believe that it was something other than an STD. It seems to me that it is highly possible that my husband hasn't come totally clean with me yet
CJ

I think places like the military and maybe some other occupations might require the HIV test. When I went in for a physical they asked if I wanted it, but said it was voluntary. I have had all tests twice so far since I discovered the affair H was having. I also have heard that HIV might not show up right away in first test and you should get a repeat about 6 months later. I am not sure if this is true today.
Pam

I did a search on the internet and found a sight with info about clymidia.
According to the info on the site...
1. sometimes there are no symptoms. (especially in men)
2. some doctors don't know how to treat it. (It's resistant to some treatments and the doctors that don't stay up to date on the newest medical knowledge may use a medication that it has developed an imunity to.)
This info came from a web site so it's only as accurate as the typist who posted it.
Keo

Hello everyone,
I was lurking and found this to be a very interesting topic.
I practice in, pathology, histology, clinical laboratory medicine, and microbiology. So, I think I might have some usefull info on the topic. Sorry this is long but, the info is useful.
There are quite a number of different STD's that have the same symptoms. But here is the scoop on Chlamydia trachomatis.
Chlamydia is quite common as far as STD's go. In men, it is fairly easy to recognize...men will have difficulty urinating and/or disharge from the urethra.
Women however, are a totally different story.
Sometimes, women will have difficulty urinating or a frequency. But, more often they are asymptomatic, which means that they have NO symptoms of the infection.
With that in mind you could easily go months and months without ever having the slightest clue that you have Chlamydia.
But be aware that there are 3 other STD's that come to mind that can have symtoms that resemble those of Chlamydia. They are, N. gonorrhoeae, Ureaplasma urealyticum, and herpes simplex virus. The first being the most common though (Gonorrhea). More than likely, your physician will also test for Gonorrhea when they test for Chlamydia.
The good news is, Chlamydia is very easy to treat. A Chlamydia elfa culture will be done (results in 24-48 hrs). And from the reults of that, they will be able to effectively prescribe an antibiotic that is receptive.
The two antibiotics of choice are: doxycycline (Vibramycin), or azithromycin (Zithromax). Others are: erythromycin, sulfasoxazole, and ofloxacin (Floxin).
IF, the right antibiotics are used (which they usually are), Chlamydia will not come back. You would have to be exposed again, to get it again.
As far as HIV/AIDS goes...the patient has to REQUEST it. Only in rare case's will a doctor ask a patient to have the test done and then, it is still up to the patient. The test CANNOT be done without written consent. It is recommended that HIV testing be repeated at six to eight months after the first test. HIV has a six month "window" period, in which it is possible to be infected (and to spread it) but not have it show up on the test.
For the betrayed like myself. Even if the betrayer used a condom, be cautious!!!!!
That's my two cents...or 1/8 of one cent due to HMO's ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)
JW

[This message has been edited by JW (edited March 16, 2000).]

I have heard that chlamydia can go for months without having any symtoms show up even years sometimes (so i've been told), but every doctor is different and tends to say different things.
