Hi Beth ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)
Yes, we have been discussing your situation and differing phiosophies in ways you might approach it.
Your H is lucky you haven't divorced him, he really is. You certainly have had grounds. And you know what? I'm sure he is very aware of how lucky he is himself.
You know..on the polygamy issue - even as a Christian you are lucky you aren't living through this 2000 years ago. He would have just married her too and brought her home to live with you!
Look at it this way - what IS adultery? When God came down from Heaven on Mt Sinai and gave Moses the 10 commandments - "Thou shalt not commit adultery" was one of them, right?
But what did it refer to THEN??? Then, in its original context - adultery referred to a man 'taking a woman' who was not free to marry. ie...she was married. That was about all there was to it. The man's marriage status was irrelevant. Women didn't own land. So the men passed property rights from father to son. And as such..a woman couldn't have more than one husband because - who would inherit the land? They had to keep the lineages pure.
So you see? Society has changed ITS acceptable norm - I'm not sure at what point in history the Church handed the anti-polygamy edict. But it was after Jesus's time. It was in the AD time period.
Its almost like...let me think of a good example - sex. Do you know how the sexual position 'missionary position' got its name?
Christian missionaries went into 'savage' cultures and taught that ANY sexual position other than the old standby man on top...lying flat position was sinful!
Jehova's Witnesses still believe I think. And I won't even get into sodomy laws regarding consenting adults in some southern USA states...LOL Society has reinterpreted meanings - and then attached old Testament laws to keeping our new definitions.
LOL..you people must all think I'm nuts. But I'm telling you the truth. ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)
