Good Morning Everyone,
I rarely post warnings about computer viruses (just because I don't know that much about them) but my husband called me about this one this morning. It seems his company is down for a few hours because of infection from the ILOVEYOU worm.
I figured we'd all be particularly succeptible to this one because of it's title... who among us wouldn't rush to open an ILOVEYOU e-mail. [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
Anyway, here is the reference:
www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2561671,00.html?chkpt=zdhpnews01
Please practice safe e-mail.

------------------
RobinAnn
*********
Miracles occur naturally as expressions of love. The real miracle is the love that inspires them. In this sense everything that comes from love is a miracle.
Marianne Williamson

He couldn't open the attatchment at work and so forwarded it home and wanted me to see what it was. This one is actually not a hoax. Some people in my office received it this AM.
I just E-mailed H saying "If you get an E-mail that says, "I love you" in the subject, do not open it.
And if it's not the virus, I want to know who it's from." Our server just sent us a warning about this. It might also be sent as an attachment called love-letter-for-you.
This virus completely shut down the computer system of an area hospital today. BEWARE!

OK, I need to jump in here.
As many of you know, I work on computers for a living. I happen to work for a VERY large Multi-national computer firm. I spent all day fighting with this virus today. So please accept this as fair warning. . .
This virus is VERY real, and VERY dangerous. The first thing it does if you open the attachment is send a copy of itself to everyone in your address book. (This is assuming of course that you use Microsoft Outlook for your Email.) Once it has accomplished this, it begins the process of destroying data on your hard drive.
Even if you do not use Outlook. . .If someone you know uses Outlook, and you are in their address book, then you you will be sent a copy of the virus if they have been infected. While it will not be able to send the virus to anyone else in this case, it will still destroy data on your hard drive.
This is a VERY nasty virus.
For more detailed information on this virus checkout the following URL : http://vil.nai.com/villib/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=98617
God Bless

ES,
I put a rule in my microsoft outlook email program, that any emails with the word love in it to be moved to the delete folder, and deleted.
Will this work to help prevent receiving a lovebug?
TNT

**UPDATE**: Two new variants were discovered at 3:00 pm today, 5/4/00.
Check out www.mcafee.com for the latest information.
TNT -- Yes, setting up such a rule would effectively illiminate the possibility of infection. A better alternative however would be to install or upgrade a current virus protection software. McAfee or Symantec (Norton) Antivirus, would be the two suggestions I would offer to you.
God Bless
[This message has been edited by Empty Shell (edited May 04, 2000).]

trustntruth:
Make sure you also delete them from your delete/recover file. You don't want to risk finding them months from now when you are trying to recover space!
And get the newest virus protection. --HBC

I am lucky so far, knock on wood. No love in my mailbox!!!!!!!!!! [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
tee hee
anyway... With the rules function, I listed this to permanently delete this mail, not just moving it to the deleted items folder.
I set up several rules... the word love, lovebug, ILOVEYOU, Very Funny.
So far I'm safe, but I agree - I need the virus protection.
Trend has scanmail for outlook, I wonder if it includes scanning for the lovebug.
