I read many of the other posts about voting preferences on Tuesday. I agree that the Supreme Court appointees is a MAJOR issue and one that should be thought of when deciding for whom to vote. It is a critical time in our country.
I pray that all of you out there who hold dear your moral freedoms and have conviction about your beliefs will not pass on your responsibility to vote on Tuesday. It is painfully obvious to anyone who looks around that consistent liberal policies that have so dominated our legislation is opening doors that have remained shut for many years and because of it we are reaping the sad consequences.
The 1973 decision between Roe v. Wade allowed a woman the "right" to abort her "baby". Everyone thought then that nobody would ever be allowed to do so past the 1st trimester of pregnancy. Well, for several years there have been a handful of states that have allowed full-term abortions and in the past 5 years we have learned about "partial-birth abotions." What is that old analogy about the frog in a pot of boiling water? He doesn't know his goose is getting cooked until it's cooked.
Many people believe in freedom. That we should have the "right" to do our own thing, even if that is to "abort" a "baby". Now we are dealing with an administration, of which one candidate is a part, who can't say "No" to "partial-birth abortions."
Pro-choice is the major plank in the Democrat platform. Pro-Life is the major plank in the Republican platform. Please tell me which candidate is going to veto another bill which will again pass through Congress to ban partial birth abortions.
If the tide of reckless legislation is not stemmed, we will see in the next 10 years these same debates occuring about the sick and dying. It has already been fiercly fought in several western states like Washington and Oregon. Then those of us who are living will be faced with the policies we allowed when we get old. Then who is going to be our voice?
Sanctity of life is a bigger issue than how much your paycheck is on Friday and how big your bank account is. When is it that the people who make up this great country will look past issues of convenience and personal freedoms to say, "Yes. There are moral issues out there that threaten my personal freedoms, economic and otherwise, more than do a particular President's economic policy?"
We are swimming in a cesspool of immoral consequences that are a result of policies that were passed by people we elected to office. And we continue to tread water while holding our noses and closing our eyes to the filth that we help create. Morality means nothing to most anymore.
