bitsy, my sister is on Wellbutrin and it most certainly doesn't do that to her. Do a web search on it and see what you find as far as articles and user comments. This is definitely something I haven't heard of. I do know that it DOESN'T have the sexual side-effects that SSRI's (like Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, etc.) have on many people. And there is every possibility if you have had a suppressed sex drive due to depression that this will bring it back as a part of lifting the depression symptoms ... but the phrase "woman's viagra" really surprises me.

Bitsy
i was just repeating what my Dr. told my H.(Dr does not know we are having problems.) She is a woman Dr. But I was off wellbutrin for three months, but then had to start up again and when the levels were in place so was my s-drive. But you know, everyone is different.
The other thing that is different with me is that I eat more, not less on it. But it IS prescribed for women who want to lose weight and depression. Maybe I am different.
But why did my Dr say that? Ask your own Dr. Then try it. If it does this to you and you don't like it, go off. If you eat more, go off. I am thinking about Zoloft myself. It is doing wonders for my h. And a lower sex drive may not make me feel so lonely. Certainy less stressed. or preoccupied? ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/rolleyes.gif)

I tried Wellbutrin to help me quit smoking and it really does help the cravings. The only problem I had is that I didn't sleep at all for two weeks. I finally had to quit taking it and yes, I did start smoking again.
I tried it again later on and had the same problem. I really wish I could take it and be able to sleep also as it really did work for the cravings.
As for "womens viagra" I can't say that it had that effect on me. And I have not heard of that either.

[This message has been edited by angelmom (edited February 19, 2001).]

Hi, I have taken Zoloft in the past, for depression and now take Wellbutrin. Was taking 2 a day, but decided to go with one because I read it might affect blood pressure. I also took Effexor (for hot flashes caused by Tomoxifin) for a couple months. The results for me were that Zoloft and Effexor both killed my libido, yup, we had a funeral. I don't notice that at all with Wellbutrin, but wouldn't call it viagra, by any means. L

I was on Nortriptyline for a year and that killed my libido. I could think normally, but i was always tired and I gained weight incredibly fast.
The Dr. switched me to Wellbutrin. Wow! Didn't do much for my sex drive persay, but it boosted my energy levels way up there. I also had some pretty bad side effects, and I wasn't taking much. Also helped with my depressive over-eating.
Changed Drs., new one moved me over to Effexor. It's wonderful. I'm level, energy isn't on overdrive, but it's a whole lot better than it was when I was on Nortriptyline. Libido is up.... too bad my husband's not around <drat>. Eating level-off too. And the side-effects virtually disappeared (yea!).
My understanding is that different things work better for different people. Don't be afraid to change medications. It may take several changes before you find what works.
What I've found out is that Wellbutrin is the same thing as Zyban --- the one you see on the TV commercials that's advertised for helping to stop smoking. The formula and dosages may be slightly different, but it's essentially the same thing.
~Amy
