Nobody who has been suicidal or has attempted suicide and gone through long-term recovery through therapy and life changes and deep reflection regrets the fact that they are still alive. In fact, it is only death that cannot be overcome. Everything else in life fades, its tragic importance diminishes, and life with its colors and fantastic shapes reasserts itself. This is the will of the world, the will of God, and the spirit that animates us all. Even in the midst of despair, it is possible--I swear it because I know it from experience--to gain at least a little purchase on that perspective.
