I have posted in awhile, but I feel like I have to today or I will go crazy. Since discovering my wife's affair in July, I thought that she was being totally honest with me. I asked detailed, painful questions, and because she answered them I believed that she was telling me the truth. We started seeing a counselor who it seemed was helping us a great deal. Because of the work that I do, I was able to look up the name of the person that she had the affair with and discovered that this person did not exist. She finally came clean with the name of the individual, but she also came clean with the fact that everything that she had told me since my discovery was a lie. She then told me things that simply blew me away, such as the other man was 11 years her senior and married with children. She also told me that she used to work for him part time, which is something I never knew, she had a part time job that she never told me about, she would work with him when she should have been at her other job. All of this information was given to me a week ago, she claims that the lies were eating her alive and that she feels much better that she has come clean about everything. She states that she wants to make our marriage work, but this feeling of not really knowing her is eating at me, how could someone that claims to love you live a double life the way that she did for several months? I also wrote the OM's wife a letter, letting her know everything that had gone on and she and the other man called my home. The OM was upset that I had done such a thing and his wife wanted confirmation of these things from my wife. I don't know if working this out is worth it or not, any suggestions? Oh yeah, my wife is currently in individual therapy dealing with issues from a traumatic childhood, which may have some connection as to why she has done what she has done, but I'm not sure........I need help!!

Betrayers lie and they get so used to it some of them get to the point they can't remember which is the lie and what was the truth. My husband has stated this to me.
Marriages can be saved. It takes a huge amount of effort and the effort is rarely on both parts. Only you can decide if you can do it. Her willingness to work on the marriage is a very good sign.
I highly recommend getting into counseling, individual for you if she won't go. Read SURVIVING THE AFFAIR by Harley and then read some more. AFTER THE AFFAIR by Springs, TORN ASUNDER by Carder, DIVORCE BUSTING by Weiner Davis.
Good luck.
