It appears that H has given me a little gift. Well, actually passed it on to me after OW kindly gave it to him. My last physical came back abnormal, and my dr confirmed today that I tested positive for Human papillomavirus (HPV), which is transmitted sexually, by the male. Basically, it greatly increases my chances for developing cervical cancer, as dysplasia has already set in. Hopefully, they've caught it at the very early stages.
When I found out that this virus was a possibility, I told H that I needed to know for medical reasons when the last time he had slept with her was. Well, it was April. He had told me prior to this, that it had been September. Ten more months of lying......
The interesting twist was that when he told OW, she tried to plant the seed that I had been the one to be unfaithful. Of course, that is so far from the truth. Actually, it could very well have been OW that was out messing around. H appears to be very upset with OW as she either lied to him that she was clean, or didn't get tested for everything like she said she had.
Just curious if anyone else out there has faced this virus, and what the outcome was......

That is the first I've heard of this disease. Is is commonly tested for when STD's are tested? Did you find it through a routine pap smear?
I'd be curious also to know about it. I too got an infection two months after H's A started. The cad didn't even let on what he was doing which would have helped me understand what was going on with me.
The type I had was common though, (although I'd never had anything like it). Apparantly his OW had slept around on him while he was sleeping around on me.
I'd be curious to know what HPV is and the prognosis.
Thoughts and prayers are with you.

As far as I know, HPV is the virus that causes Genital Warts. It is very common, and many people have it, but don't know it. It can lie dormant forever in some people.
I would advise that you research more about this, because from what I know, it is very common, and not necessarily something that you need to worry about. Hopefully your doctor can also shed some light on this.
My thoughts are with you.

Does it affect males as well, or do we just get to deliver it?

WAT - I know from personal experience that men get infected. My first W gave me that present shortly after we were married. Treatment was the application of podophilic acid to "burn" them off. Not pleasant I can tell you.

Thanks for the replies. The research that I have done, and according to my GYN, it is something that causes different things in different people.
It is a virus that can lie dormant in many people, so many don't know that they have it. Because until H had his A, neither of us had ever had a sexual relationship with anyone else, there isn't really anyone else that it could have come from. It isn't something that is routinely screened for, because if it is in the dormant stage, there is nothing they can do for it. Once it causes the dysplasia is when it is of more concern. Rick, you are also correct in that the other symptom of it is genital warts. It just doesn't always appear in that form.
K9---the reason that they found it was because my routine pap came back abnormal---mild dysplasia. Basically, that means that they check with further tests as to what's going on. That is when they confirmed the positive result on the HPV. As for prognosis, basically, I have to go in every 6 months at a minimum for awhile. If anything suspicious comes up, it will be more often than that.
Rick---I have done some research, and talked at length to my OB/GYN. He knew the situation between me and h, so was able to explain things further. You are absolutely correct that is the virus that causes genital warts. Unfortunately, for me, it decided to take the other route, which could be more dangerous in the long run. Not definately, but possibly. I wasn't that concerned until I did a search on WebMD, and everything that came up about the virus was in articles regarding cervical cancer. That's when I got a little more worried about the situation.
Dave and Heartpain---guess you don't only get to deliver.....I'll be sure to inform H!

HiI:
It would be a LB to express it, but you can think it:
"Gee <WS>, guess your princess is really a toad ... I've got the warts to prove it."
Sigh. Alas, you cannot express that aloud. Unfortunately, you do have to live with the consequences.
Godspeed,
STL
