A judge in North Carolina used an archaic law against adultery to fine a fellow $500,000 for having an affair with another man's wife. "Alienation of affection" ordinances fit the bill in this case, says attorney Diane McDonald, who represented James Hill. His wife of 18 years fell for a guy 13 years younger than her and moved in with him. Hill sued the man and won. "But it isn't about the money. It's about vindication, "says McDonald.
