The above icon is for embarrassment.
I am having surgery Wednesday, tomorrow morning and although I know it's silly and ridiculous to worry and be, well frankly scared. I AM! [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
I have the pleasure of having two different procedures in one morning. First the Kidney Surgeon will take her stab at me and try and figure out what is wrong with my kidney or if I am just built weird. While they were doing an ultra sound my abdomen to assess what was going on with my abdominal pains. They found the kidney to appear abnormal and as if it wasn't functioning properly. That makes me a bit nervous as I have had my abdomen ultra sounded a few times before and no radiologist has ever mentioned me having an abnormal kidney before. After she is finished and repairs anything that may need repairing they are going to whisk me down to another operating room.
There the General Surgeon will remove my gall bladder, hopefully via a laparoscope’s and as much laser as possible. If the laser & laparoscopic surgery doesn't fly they'll do an open incision removal. No big deal right? Well I am so nervous, scared, and a ton of other words that won't come to mind right now. (I said that already didn't I? [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com] ) Oh and then there is the really minor but vain thing of not needing any more scars on my abdomen.
This is really silly, as I have had at least 15 different operations in my life. Maybe it's the odds that I am worried about. How many times can one go under the knife and not have a major complication?
Today they did my pre-op testing and called me with in an hour and a half to tell me my potassium is dangerously low and they were calling me in a script to start immediately. They also told me to eat three bananas. I threw in a bake potato for good measure. [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com] Not sure what low potassium can cause but they were alarmed, so I am a bit. My sister says along with the nurse that it can affect my heart. Couple that with me being a smoker makes me more worried.
I know I don't post much anymore, but I do lurk and read a bunch. I pray for everyone and often for specific people. I just haven't had much to add to the threads that haven’t already been said very eloquently.
So for those of you who know me, and anyone who doesn't but just like to pray for me (feeling awful selfish right now requesting that) please do? Posting here too would be great as it could help keep my mind off it. I am pretty lonely here. Hubby works nights.
Thanks and my love to each and every one of you.

------------------
God bless you and all of us. We are all going to make it, all of us! Samantha,
I think that your problem is that you are...how shall I say it? HUMAN!
Most of us don't like to be poked or prodded (medically speaking) much less cut on. I think there is a long psychological word for those who do like it.
I hope all goes well for you tomorrow. I will keep you in my prayers. I wish I could send you a card that I received last time I had surgery. The text was (outside) "It will help you in your recovery if you will learn to think like a man." (inside) "Sit back and let everyone wait on you for a change!"

My dear friend,,of course I'll be praying for you! We are too tough and stubborn to allow anything to get us down for too long, so you'll be up and around in no time at all.
{{{{{{{{{big hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}

Samantha,
Your feelings are very understandable, and I will say a prayer.
If anything, past operations with no complications probably bode well for more of the same.
Steve

Samantha,
I don't usually post, only lurk, but your topic caught my attention.
Please be assured that what you are feeling is very normal as I'm sure you know since you've had other surgeries. I had two surgeries last November and was ready to get up and leave just before they took me to surgery. I was petrified.
Please be assured you will be in my prayers tonight as well as the surgeons and those who will be attending you.
Symphony
Isaiah 26:3

Thank you all very much for replying. I so appreciate your prayers and thoughts. I'm off to the hospital now. Just wanted to read this before I left. You've made me feel so much better. There is power in prayer and it's working. I love you all so much.
Take care, have a great day and I will post again as soon as I can.
Hugs
------------------
God bless you and all of us. Sammy;
You've probably just been drugged up and are going 'under the scope'. It's scary, to be sure...I know, I've had some gall bladder trouble, too.
I found a neat old hymn you might like to meditate on while you heal:
The great Physician now is near,
the sympathizing Jesus;
He speaks the drooping heart to cheer,
Oh, hear the voice of Jesus.
Sweetest note in seraph song,
Sweetest name on mortal tongue,
Sweetest carol ever sung,
Jesus, blessed Jesus.
His Name dispels my guilt and fear,
No other name but Jesus,
Oh, how my soul delights to hear
The charming name of Jesus.
Isaiah 58:8
Your light shall break forth like the morning,
YOUR HEALING SHALL SPRING FORTH SPEEDILY,, and your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
CONSIDER YOURSELF PRAYED FOR!
(I thought about anointing my computer with oil, but that can get SOOOO messy.)
hugs,
lizzie/pogp
[This message has been edited by alias (edited July 25, 2001).]
