Hi,
Yes, my family is from Hawaii. My parents have retired there. Mahalo is another way to say thanks. Kind of touristy but nice. They are from the same island as Mrs. O on the d/d site.
Hm.... read your other thread. How are you doing? I don't want to be a bad influence on you and it is getting a bit late for me to have a 'cold one'. But I don't mind chatting for a bit.
I want to let you know how much your post on my thread meant to me. You know Hawaiian? Really liked how you were able to calm me down. That scene on the beach was real touching and I cried when I read it. As much as I did not want to post anymore (at least for that moment), you made me see that I just could not walk away. I want you to remember how you supported me, that we now need to be there for you. Ok?
I am not a Hawaiian native. More like a transplant. Speak pidgin and all, went to school there for a few years but actually born on the mainland. Lived there for a total of 5 years. Visit often. Most of my relatives are there. I feel like I belong more there than here in CA.
....and I love mangoes. Especially when I was pregnant, pickled mangoes where my 1 craving. Crazy or what?
I miss my family in Hawaii. My H is not that close to them, we are from different cultures and he finds it hard that I am so much more friendly than he is. Sometimes he gets jealous but the Hawaiian spirit in me yearns to reach out to others. For me, I wouldn't have it any other way. I enjoy the way I was raised, not to be prejudice and want to help others. Of course now being here, I am learning to temper that with better judgement. There is such a thing as enabling that we must all watch out for. Sometimes, helping is not really helping, you know what I mean?
So what about U?
L.

Hey Berzini,
My family originally hails from those islands (100% but most people don't know what an Okinawan is, so my birth certificate says Japanese). Can't say that I have ever been there. But I do have some distant relatives there. Grandparents on both sides migrated to Hawaii in the early 1900's. Both had arranged marriages (FYI).
Anyway, what part of Okinawa are you on? Naha? I don't know the layout that much. So please bear with an ignorant Oki!
Good to hear from you. How are you doing?
L.

Aloha, Orchid!!
I live in Agena, part of Gushikawa, I guess, and if it weren't scorching hot, I would just love it here. We are, I suppose you can tell, military.
Hey, I lived off Kaahumanu St in Pearl City, right by the Daie. Oahu is my adopted home and I won't be a happy girl until I go back--it's a small world, aint it!!!

Aloha Berzini,
NO kidding. Sorry H2U, going to pidgin here. Found a local girl.... LOL....
I lived in PC on Hoolaulea Court. Just below the high school. I have 3 relatives in that city and used to live in Waipahu when I was about 5 years old. oops that was a few decades ago..... Sure changed alot since then.
I miss HI, it's so much easier to shop, have fun and be with family. And I miss the beach. I am an ocean girl, not a good swimmer but love it anyway. I also have family in Ewa Beach and Makakilo. Oh, too many relatives, the are all over the place!!
I hear Okinawa has nice beaches, is it true? Do you speak Okinawaiian? My family speaks both. Me? Hopeless when it comes to speaking a foreign language. Love to sing in Hawaiian but can't carry a conversation in Japanese to save my soul.
I had a chance to visit Okinawa about 15 years ago. Was afraid of the 'snakes', so I chickened out. Now I regret it. My aunts visited their relatives and they dedicated a school to our family. During the war, they depended on my grandparents to get them provide with supplies so in appreication a school was dedicated. Real touching.
How long have you been there? My Aunt's maiden name was Gushiken. Is that a common family name in that area? I think my mom's side is near there.
L.

[This message has been edited by Orchid (edited August 04, 2001).]
