I'm starting on Wellbutrin today.
Anyone have any stories to share? I really dislike taking anything that is not natural. GULP!
Jo
------------------
"Remain flexible like a reed, as opposed to an oak which can snap in the wind"

It was delicious---and very purple-y too!!
Seriously, Jo: my major side effects were cotton mouth and insomnia. These both were gone within four weeks. The insomnia was treated with Ambien, and I probably only used it about 10 times.
I was on it for about a year. No problems being weaned off of it. The one thing I miss was that it seemed as though it was an endless supply of "patience in a bottle". Other than that, I didn't notice any real highs or lows (which I think is the point).
[This message has been edited by K (edited August 06, 2001).]

Ohhhh, fine, mine are GREEN! I love purple, K, it's my fav color.
Welp, the doc said one of the side effects was insomnia, I told him no way then, I LOVE to sleep and need 9 hours minimum. So he convinced me to try it by lowering the dose (100 mg) and told me to take one a day in the morning.
During discovery I must have tried every SSRI and every type non-habit forming tranquilizer, anti-anxiety and anti-dep pill known to man. I'm not kidding! I nixed it all.
So, we'll see ... I'm very apprehensive, but I know I need some help with the depression.
If I don't sleep tonight, I'm gonna be one cranky poster in the morning .... [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
It can make you anorgasmic. So if you're a guy suffering from PE, it's just the ticket. It'll probably be the same for you, Jo. You'll still reach orgasm, but it'll take longer---more work.
But work can be fun, no? When I was taking it, the only sexual side effect was larger forearms... Hey since we're on the subject has anyone taken Zoloft? I went to see the doc last week and that's what he gave me but they make me feel very nauseas most of the day. I even took them at night and same effect and had insomnia. I called him today but wouldn't you know he's on vacation for a week. I just don't like feeling sick and that is one of the side effects. So I've decided not to take them until I talk to him again. I wish there was something natural I could take. I ask the doc about St. John's Wort and he said he really didn't think that it would help.
cybil

Zoloft is another SSRI. I tried 6 types of SSRI's and I'm not a good candidate either.
The effects they had on me were profound. I had tremmors and felt like I was outside of myself. I could not function, period.
Everyone is different biologically, so you might try another milder SSRI that won't have the nausea or insomnia side effects.
Jo
[This message has been edited by Resilient (edited August 06, 2001).]

Jo,
It can take 4 weeks for the effects to take place. The effects were so gradual for me, I wasn't really sure when the stuff was working.

Hi all,
I have not been on Wellbutrin personally, although I plan to start it soon and definitely need it, but as a healthcare provider I can share some information. Wellbutrin is not really an SSRI - it has a different mechanism of action. It's very effective as an antidepressant and has a fairly quick onset of action. Most of my patients report improvement in just a few days. Wellbutrin, unlike other antidepressants, does not decrease libido (sex drive) or so says the literature. In fact it is being reviewed by the FDA to be used to INCREASE libido. I thought K's response was interesting though - I haven't heard that from my female patients, but it's possible that it delays orgasm without decreasing sex drive. It is also being reviewed to be used as a weight loss aid and is being used for that purpose often already. Of course, under the name Zyban, Wellbutrin is used to stop smoking. On a medical message board that I'm on there was an interesting thread which finally ended with someone summing up that it "makes you eat less, smoke less, feel better and have sex more". If that's the case, sounds pretty good.
