Has anyone seen this program? It's something of a documentary that apparently they have running as a series on PBS. It seems to focus on teens today - their lives and struggles.
I watched it last night and it broke my heart. One of the teens they were interviewing was talking of how torn she was inside. Her dad had left her mom apparently for another woman, and was going to marry this new person. She was struggling with the dilema of choosing whether to go to the wedding of her father or not.
It was something else. If you could have seen the pain in this young girls eyes. Being forced to make 'adult' descisions. It was ripping her in two because she loved her mom, and knew going would hurt her, yet she loved her dad and realized that he would be hurt if she didn't attend.
Well, she went. They showed this wedding on the program. The daughter and a son sitting there watching the ceremony. The bride and groom oblivous to the pain that was occuring at the same time that their 'dreams' were coming true.
The daughter then said how when they got to the part in the ceremony where the vows were exchanged she just began to cry.
What she said next struck me deeply. I wish I could remember her exact words. She said it was hard to listen to the vows knowing that the relationship between her father and his new bride was based on lies and not the 'truth.'
It was the 'way' in which their relationship came to be that hurt the girl so deeply. It was crystal clear, the pain, and sadness that was expressed. That, and the disrespect of this new relationship.
Can anyone blame her for feeling that way?
It is a tragedy. Infidelity is tragic. Sorry to state the obvious.
[This message has been edited by Dawnn (edited August 30, 2001).]
