Hope I can help. I worked labor and delivery for 13 years. A few ?'s. What baby is this for you? Did doc tell you how effaced you are and what station? If you've already had a vaginal birth you could be 2 cms for weeks and not have anything happen if there is no effacement. If it's your first baby your probably more likely to be effaced along with your 2cms. With the first baby having the baby engaged in the pelvis putting pressure on the cervix means labor is getting closer. If the baby is not engaged then it could still be awhile. With subsequent pregnancies the baby does not usually engage until labor starts.
Any more info you can give would be helpful.

any suggestion on how to get the labor process moving????
thanks all

My daughter was due on Dec. 6 last year too. she was born on the 2oth lol. I was 2 cm. dilated shortly before Thanksgiving. My Dr. said "You won't make it to your due date." I went to my due date and beyond lol. I shoveled horse stalls, scrubbed floors on my hands & knees, you name it. Finally I was induced. So it could be anytime, or it could be weeks. Good luck!

Well, I hate to be the one to suggest it but you might try a nice romp in bed. It worked for me...

You're only 36 1/7, so rather than try to speed things up, I think I would try to slow things down. We've gotten good at managing babies born early, but respiratory problems are a consideration before 37 weeks. The likelihood of having the baby in the next 3 days, though, (even considering that you're 2 cm) is pretty slim unless you have a history of preterm delivery.
Don't do anything to encourage labor for a couple of weeks and then I have lots of tried & true tips for getting things going
Good luck!

A good romp in the bed actually is the best suggestion and really the only one that has any validity. Semen contains prostaglandins which cause the uterus to contract. A good "deposit" close to the cervix ( certain positions are better than others )is about the only thing advisable, safe and effective thing you might do to get things going.
Walking, strenuous housework, spicy food will only make you tired and/or miserable. Have fun having some good sex (since you won't get it for awhile afterwards) and use this little time you have to rest and relax and pamper yourself!

Wow you guys crack me up...lol...............
ok first to answer all the medical related questions.
this is my 3rd and last baby.
my first was born 2hrs from the time i arrived at the hospital...vaginal birth and triple episiotomy ouch. they broke my water
my second baby born less than 2 years ago was also vaginal and a triple episiotomy.
but took 13 hours from the time my water broke at home. the day before my water brok i went to the doc and was 1 cm dialated
the doc did not say anything about being efaced he just said he poked him in the head.
both of my other 2 children were born 12 days early.
as for the sex thing did it twice last night and once this morning and here i sit typing away.

also i plan on taking my laptop with me to the hospital and will keep you all posted.

Ok Luv,
The sex will be helpful if the cervix is effaced and your body is close to being hormonally ready for labor. It is not uncommon at all for someone having their 3rd kiddo to be 2cms sometimes for weeks, as Fairydust mentioned in her story.
It is possible to "poke the kid in the head" even when the baby hasn't settled into the pelvis, the head just floats away. Two early previous deliveries and I'd say you probably deliver before your due date this time too. In the next few days maybe not. Relax! Forget about it. if you start to feel crampy or feel your tummy tightening and relaxing you might want to keep at the sex thing if you are dying to get this over with! I've not seen a 36 weeker have trouble breathing unless they were born to a diabetic mom and have not seen a MD stop labor tis far into the pregnancy unless of course mom was diabetic and even then most OB's I worked with wouldn't have been too concerned! Happy Labor Days!
Remember, no one gives you a brownie button for your suffering if you don't take the pain med. Pain meds can relax you enough to speed things up if you're in good labor! All the best to you!
