By the way, I'm on the west coast of Canada on Vancouver Island. I think me and Slappy are the only ones I know of from B.C. but I'm sure there's tons more out there.

Karen,
About the driving thing - I did not learn to drive until I was 27, the week before H was heading to the U.S. to do a graduate degree. Until then, either H did the driving or I walked or took the bus.
The one upside to learning to drive at 27 was that during driver's ed (yes, I took a driving course), those 16 and 17 year olds thought I was a real genius because I could answer all of the driving instructor's questions. I guess reading the driving manual and a decade more of common sense does have its advantages.
Hey, perhaps Sheryl could take you out for your first driving lesson... Now, there is an idea. Trusty MB friend and driving instructor - the one, the only, Nyneve.
I am going to hang out here a little longer, if anyone else wants to keep chatting.
OneDay
[ November 16, 2001: Message edited by: OneDay ]

I'm back.
OneDay... hehehe.. you gave me a good giggle (oooohhh... jelly belly hurts!! ).
The only thing keeping me from starting on my licence is the beginners fee. We live paycheck to paycheck here (sigh!)... so the $100 it costs to start now really puts a kink in our budget. (that can buy a LOT of diapers and formula.. grin).

Karen,
I know a few women who are over 40 and still don't drive. I think after the teen and early twenty years, learning to drive is a 'necessity' thing. Since you don't need it, don't worry about it. If you are curious, the driver's manual is free (or at least it used to be) at the driving test centres.
Hey, if you get a head start with the manual, you can really WOW them when you have a little loose change for lessons!
Btw, how are things with you these days? I don't think I have seen an update in a while.
OneDay

The manuals aren't free anymore They cost around $10. I've gone so far as to finally buy one this past summer (during my separation with H). Available at any Canadian Tire retailer!! LOL... well, that's where I got mine anyways. I got the free one too... back when I turned 16. The new one is at LEAST 3 times as thick (it has to tell you how to close doors, put on seatbelts, etc... makes me laugh actually!).
Things are going well for me. I'm learning to let go of the resentment I feel towards OW#1 (that FORMER friend of mine... grrrr!!!)... but it's a difficult task.
I'm dealing with Andrew's passing MUCH better, but I'm pretty p.o.'d that on the 1st anniversary of his passing, the whole world was focused elsewhere (Sept 11, 2000). Selfish? Yup. But I don't care either.
The biggest problem I'm having with H is the amount of time he spends with his 'buddy'. They're out right now, having a coffee. They're worse than teenage girls!! (and having been one, I can rightfully say that! ).
I started reading your post on the recovery board, but I'll admit, I can't read the long posts these past few days (my concentration level is kaputz!... I blame the drugs! LOL)

hi sheryl, sorry i disappeared. i did not get the boot, but rather a neighbor visit with terrible news. the neighbor was just coming home and found my dog dead on the road. This is very tragic for me and him-he was a great dog, very loving, my buddy. He never strayed out that way-it is far from the house, and i never saw it as a potential problem because he is a smart well trained show dog. I have no idea why he would go all that way tonight. He was right here, keeping my feet warm, while I typed to you earlier. say some prayers for us. i will bury him in the morning. cl

I should go now too. It's almost 1a.m. here, and I need to get more rest to heal best.
Take care everyone!
cl: be sure to talk about your pup on here if you need to. I had a cat for over 18 yrs, and when he died, I needed to talk about him (just like I still need to talk about my son, Andrew).
Karen

cl
I am so sorry for the loss of your pup. I know it must be hard. I really don't know what I would do if I lost my dog (baby is her name) she has given me a lot of comfort through this whole mess. I have cried to her and talked and she just lays beside me and acts as if she knows what is going on.
Now back to one day at a time to get over the loss of your dog. He had a wonderful life with you.
Stay strong
SLH
