I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan too.
H had called his brother to snowblow out the front. The cousin I called yesterday couldn't come out to plow until this morning. So, we didn't go anywhere yesterday. I didn't even walk to the post office.
we have a hotwater furnace but also have a woodstove. We built our house ourselves, for the most part, Iniitally it being a modified earth home and for the first seven years, that woodstove was all we had.<p> The wood, it keeps you warm. You cut it, haul it, split it, stack it. Sometimes haul and stack it again in the house this time, and then take the ashed out. It keeps you warm, alright. We built a woodroom in the lowest level, which is only 12 feet away from the stove. H did make sure we had wood before he left.
The upstairs? The hot water loop isn't finished. So no heat up there except for a pellet stove, which does a good job. Know who had to go get a ton of pellets? Me. 40 lb bags.
The guy helped me put the first half ton on the truck and I took it home, and by that time son was home to help me unload it. Still I lifted every sack at least two times, once to help get in the truck and once to help get out. Had son drive the 50 miles with me the second time to get the other half of the ton. It was snowing so bad on the way home that he had to stop and turn the driving over to me, and I could hardly find the road either. That was the only particular day we could go last week. I need to see the chiropractor now. [img]images/icons/wink.gif" border="0[/img]
If I hadn't gone to get it, we would be without, because it has been the holy holiday (HUNTING) and the world around here literally STOPS for that, if you are a man. Well, the women take over because the men's minds have left their bodies, only to be taken up again on the 30th. Oh, before that? they were practicing shooting, siting in guns, stocking the camp...never mind home... You are not even to expect to see them during this time if they are lucky enough to get off work. If they show up, fine, don't expect them to do anything though.
So you need to plan ahead of Nov 15-30th so you don't get dropped between the cracks. [img]images/icons/smile.gif" border="0[/img]

Know what? The week I was due with my last baby,(5 years ago) we needed wood. I had called two weeks before but because of the snow and cold, the guy said he couldn't get his truck in where they kept the wood. There was unbelievable snow that year. Our banks were at least 8 feet high in the front where the snowplow and city repiled it. I called again and the guy said he could deliver some....know what???? He drove the truck and HIS WIFE had to unload it. Not only that, but because of the snow, it had to be lifted over the bank [about 3-4 ft at least in the back] (there was no where left to plow the snow)...Oh was I mad at that guy. He sat in the truck and let his WIFE do all the work. Now even if he guy had a heart condition or whatever, I think he could have gotten some other guy or one of his 3 sons to do it. I felt so bad for her.
