A MC i am thinking of switching to (from a bad experiance with the old one) says she uses some MB stuff but mainly uses research and practices from Gottman. Have any of you read books from or have any input about those practices? The Gottman institute studies marital relationships and all but I havent found a book yet by him specifically about A's though the MC says she deals a lot with them. She seems very nice and even took an hour at lunch to talk to me over the phone and listen for free without an appointment.
Just wondering

I have read one Gottman book cover to cover "Why Marriages Succeed or Fail: How you can make yours last" and have started "The Seven Priniciples for Making Marriage Work: A Practical Guide from the Country's Foremost Relationship Expert", both of which come highly recommended from Cs. Other books he has recently written include: "The Relationship Cure: A Five-Step Guide for Building Better Connections with Family, Friends, and Lovers" and "Marriage Clinic"; and he has two books to be published soon, on research oriented and the other is a newer version of "The Relationship Cure." I don't think he has written anything on recovery from an A specifically.
I personally find Gottman a tough read, although his writing is full of insight. I think his methodology is probably better than MB (as MB's is wholely anecdotal), but his solutions are more complicated for the 'self-helpers'. That said, with the assistance of a MC, I think Gottman's approach would be sound, useful and provide a good understanding and tools upon which to rebuild one's M. If the MC would use a blended approach, for example MB-style in the early stages of recovery and Gottman-style for mid and later stages for rebuilding, then there is a lot of merit to the approach, IMHO.
Let us know what you do.
