I just have to say I was sickened when I read my People magazine yesterday. Julia Roberts is on the cover and of course she is referred to as "America's Sweetheart". After reading the article she will from now on be "America's Slutheart' in my eyes. The article was mostly about how wonderful Julia is, how great her career is, how happy she is yak, yak, yak. Then there were afew paragraphs that mentioned her soulmate du jour. He is married and left his wife for Julia. He is a cameraman who she met on the set of "Ocean's 11" (when she still had a boyfriend). After the movie wrapped his wife saw his cell phone bill and realized he was calling Julia every day. Afew months later he walked out on her. Supposedly she was devastated and encouraged him to look at Julia's past history and "not to throw away 4 years of marriage for a fling". Then it went on to say that initially his family was reluctant to accept Julia because they love his wife, but she has since "won them over". Gag.
It's bad enough to be cheated on with a local ho, but I can't imagine what it must be like to have to look at the OW's picture every time you pass a magazine rack.
I feel really badly for the wife but she may at least get poetic justice. Within another movie or 2 Julia will have grown bored of her non celebrity lapdog (I've seen at least 3 pictures of him walking behind her carrying her stuff) "fall in love" with yet another co star and dump him. He'll probably be one of the few MM who actually does get truly dumped by the OW. When I say truly dumped I mean hasta la vista baby, not one of those phony breakups engineered to get the MM to leave the wife, then when he still doesn't the OW takes him back anyway. It just makes me sick to see adultery glorified in the media.

Not only was she a shrew, but she never listened, didn't really understand him, never wanted to have sex, had mental problems, was so mean....
And it's not only Julia folks. Tom Cruise used to be my favorite. I could probably recite Top Gun from memory, but never again. I have less than no respect for that jerk. Won't even go see Vanilla Sky.
Nice example for his kids.

I think Julia and tom both deserve a bashing in some bad magazines....like the true sleezbag magzines at the front of the grocery stores that they have out while you pay... I am sickened and I am about to call people mag. and complain about them calling americas slutheart... americas sweetheart...(not sure if I really have the time, but if anyone digs up the number I will give a call)!
thanks for the info, honey

Forgive me for pointing this out. Not every marriage is salvageable and some spouses are just that, shrews or worse, both male and female. Personally I agree with this post about Julia but let's face facts some people are impossible and some marriages do need to end. In fact they probably should never have taken place to begin with. Just a thought

There's never justification for an affair. I believe I'll address this on another post. Watch for it.

If it's really that bad the WS should have no problem growing a spine and walking out to start over alone with no third parties involved. I was in a horrible, long term relationship. Could have cheated many times over and having a backup plan to run to would have been the easy way out. But I left on my own, because it truly wasn't meant to be.

I agree with you. I love Meg Ryan too but look what she did to her family for a man who dumped her anyway. There are so many movies that make adultery look wonderful. I can't stand to watch the Bridges of Madison County and how they make the main characters look 'noble' for ending their affair and her going back to her family. What a sacrifice hey?

fairydust makes an excellent point. Lots of people are in hopelessly unhappy marriages, but they don't choose to have an affair.
And I am always puzzled when people point to unhappy marriages as a rationalization for having an affair because just HOW does having an affair SOLVE marital problems? Since having an affair cannot do anything but aggravate the existing problems this seems to just be nothing more than an EXCUSE to have an affair.

I saw Diane Sayer interview him and he was a pompous [censored]. He said about his affair with Meg Ryan "We didn't intend to fall in love but it happened and it that offends anyone, too bad."

Older than dirt here........ET's (E. Taylor) been the OW to R Burton way before Julia was even born!!?!?!? So this stuff has been going on for a looooong time. But what happened? Twice Divorced, Richard ended up being married to someone who resembled his first W and stayed with her until he died. Hm........ What about Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas (sp?) - she's paying for it now by always worrying he's going to leave her (hehehe - I'm feeling mean).
I read yesterday that Tom Cruise has told friends he regrets divorcing Nicole, that she was the best thing that ever happened to him and he didn't realise it.... He's supposedly asked her back, but she won't have him. Of course Nicole was an OW too, so she could've seen it coming.
Evensong

Back to Julia Roberts' new flame fairydust, what was even really noticeable to both me and my husband when we were reading the article is that he still has his wedding ring on in the one picture where they are having lunch together!!??
Then again, remember People magazine, they always get quotes from "a friend" or "sources" or some other unnamed entity.
People lost their credibility with me when they had a big huge cover story about Marcia Clark and in her book, Clark said that People magazine never even contacted her! She was surprised to see her face on their cover.
Soooooo, consider the source. The media tells us what they want us to know or think.

Now I know why I could give a rat's [censored] about TV, Hollywood, and the movies. I'd rather go for a walk with my daughter and lift up rocks to find buggies sleeping.
